ඉතිහාසයේ වැඩිම වී ප්‍රමාණයක්‌ මේ කන්නයේදී මණ්‌ඩලය ගත්තා

වී අලෙවි මණ්‌ඩලය ශ්‍රී ලංකා ඉතිහාසයේ මහ කන්නයකදී මිලදී ගත් වැඩිම වී ප්‍රමාණය මෙවර මිලදී ගත් බව සමුපකාර හා අභ්‍යන්තර වෙළෙඳ අමාත්‍ය ජොන්ස්‌ටන් ප්‍රනාන්දු මහතා පවසයි. මේ අනුව මෙවර මහ කන්නයේදී ඉකුත් 10 වැනිදා දක්‌වා මිලදී ගෙන ඇති සමස්‌ත වී ප්‍රමාණය මෙටි්‍රක්‌ ටොන් 73,987 කි. මේ සඳහා වැය කර ඇති සම්පූර්ණ මුදල රු. ලක්‍ෂ 20,000 කි. මීට ප්‍රථම මහ කන්නයකදී මිලදී ගත් වැඩිම වී ප්‍රමාණය මෙටි්‍රක්‌ ටොන් 70,000 කි.
වී මිලදි ගැනීම සාර්ථකව සිදු කරන බවත් මෙම වැඩපිළීsවෙළ කඩාකප්පල් කිරීමට උද්ඝෝෂණය කරනු ලබන්නේ විපක්‍ෂය විසින් සංවිධානාත්මකව බවත්, අමාත්‍යවරයා පැවැසීය. මිලදීගත් වී වලට ගෙවීම් සඳහා අවශ්‍ය මුදල් බැංකුවලට ලැබී ඇති බවත්, ඒ සඳහා ගොවීන්ට අපහසුතාවයක්‌ නොවන පරිදි ලබා දීමට කටයුතු කරන ලෙසටත් තමා වී අලෙවි මණ්‌ඩලයේ සභාපති කේ. බී. ජයසිංහ මහතාට නියෝග කර ඇති බවත් අමාත්‍ය ජොන්ස්‌ටන් ප්‍රනාන්දු මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් පැවැසීය.

PMB makes record paddy purchases

The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has purchased 73,987 tonnes of paddy up to Tuesday (10) at a cost of Rs. 20 million. This is the highest amount of paddy purchased so far. The previous high of 70,000 tonnes was recorded last year.
Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando said that the Opposition was carrying out a campaign through protests to mislead the farmers and the public alleging that paddy purchasing was unsuccessful, but it was proved to be untrue.
He said that in one particular area at 7.00 a.m. even before the banks were open for transactions, protests were organized to gain political mileage.
The banks had sufficient funds for the PMB to purchase paddy and PMB Chairman K. B. Jayasinghe had been instructed never to inconvenience the poor farmers, the Minister said while appealing to farmers not to fall prey to those opposition canards, but to assist the PMB in purchasing their produce.
