SLT to promote indigenous medicine

Sri Lanka Telecom will provide sponsorship to promote indigenous medicine this year.

They have devoted the cover of SLT rainbow pages to Ayurveda promotion of, Indigenous Medicine Minister Salinda Dissanayake said.

The SLT National Directory launching ceremony for 2012 was held at the Mihilaka Medura, BMICH on March 4.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is always keen to promote the indigenous medicine system and propagate it internationally. The authorities have identified that, the indigenous medicine sector has the maximum ability to cure non communicable diseases such as heart attacks, diabetese and blood pressure, he said.

The country already has a systematic indigenous medicine method to cure diseases such as eye disease, fractures and many ailments. The value of indigenous medicine systems need to be publicised so that it would reach to the world, he said.

Sri Lanka Telecom is promoting this sector in collaboration with the Indigenous Medicine Ministry. Around 1.6 million SLT Telephone Directories will be distributed this year. Apart from that utilizing CDs, e-mails, e-directories and websites Sri Lanka Telecom is supporting the Indigenous Medicine Ministry to promote the Ayurveda system this year, he said. Deputy Indigenous Medicine Minister Pandu Bandaranayake said that a large number of tourists are visiting Sri Lanka. Therefore the ministry has taken measures to develop this sector. Sri Lanka Telecome Chief Executive Officer Greg Young said, SLT had supported to promote tourism last year. Sri Lanka Telecom will support to promote Ayurveda during this year. Ministry Secretary Bandula Dahanayake also spoke.
