කොළඹ නගරයේ ඇතැම් හෝටල් සේවකයන් උණසන්නිපාත විෂබීජ දාරකයන් බව කොළඹ මහ නගර සභා ජන සෞඛ්‍ය දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සිදු කළ පරීක්ෂණයකදී හඳුනාගෙන තිබේ.

මේ නිසා මාර්තු 31 වැනි දිනට පෙර වෙළෙඳ බලපත්‍ර ලබා දීමේ කාලය අප්‍රේල් 30 දක්වා දීර්ඝ කිරීමට එම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවට සිදු වී තිබේ. හෝටල්වල ජලය පමණක් නොව ආහාරද ඉතා අපිරිසුදු තත්ත්වයේ පවතින බව රසායනාගාර පරීක්ෂණවලින් හඳුනාගෙන ඇති අතර, ප්‍රධාන පෙළේ හෝටල් ද ඒ අතර ඇතැයි දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව පවසයි.

තවමත් බොහෝ ස්ථානවල නළ ළිං භාවිතා කිරීම සිදු වන බව පෙන්වාදෙන එම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව ජල බිල්පත් ඉතා අවම මට්ටමක පැවතීමෙන් එය අනුමාන කළ හැකි යැයිද සඳහන් කරයි.

ආහාරවල හා ජලයේ පිරිසුදු භාවය පිළිබඳ තහවුරු කරගන්නා තුරු වෙළෙඳ බලපත්‍රය නිකුත් නොකරන බව අවධාරණය කරන ජන සෞඛ්‍ය දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව ප්‍රධාන නළ මාර්ගයෙන් ජලය ලබාගැනීමට උපදෙස් ලබා දී තිබියදීත් එය ක්‍රියාත්මක නොකරන්නේ නම් නඩු පැවරීමට කටයුතු කරන බවද පැවසීය. විශේෂයෙන් සේවකයින්ගේ සෞඛ්‍ය තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳ වෛද්‍ය වාර්තාවක් ලබා දීම අත්‍යවශ්‍ය බවද එම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව වැඩිදුරටත් පෙන්වා දෙයි.

Docs insured against occupational hazards

In a bid to protect interns, an Insurance Scheme for occupational hazards was introduced yesterday.

On January 20, 2012 the GMOA had written to Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena explaining the necessity of implementing an Insurance Scheme. Following the letter Minister Sirisena had a discussion with the union and agreed to implement an Insurance Scheme for interns as they were not entitled to a salary or insurance scheme, the GMOA said.

GMOA President Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya told The Island that of late 13 medical officers, including interns, had died of dengue as they were exposed to germs, bacteria and viruses in the hospitals. Although doctors had insurance from occupational hazards, interns did not have any insurance. Interns were not paid a salary either. An intern was only paid Rs.25,000 as an allowance per month.

He pointed out that interns, were exposed to various diseases as they were expected to be on 24-hour duty for a year. During their services they had to deal with different types of patients, thus facing enhanced risks. Although other medical officers and the public officials were entitled to the ‘Agrahara Insurance Scheme’, the interns had to serve without an Insurance Scheme.

He said that the GMOA had also asked Minister Sirisena to pay adequate compensation to intern Dr. Hasitha Prasanjith Ranasinghe who died of dengue at the Kalutara Nagoda hospital recently.

Training on handling dangerous chemicals

Arrangements have now been made to provide professional knowledge and training to local personnel on the safe import, handling, storage and transport of dangerous chemicals, chairman Naval and Air Services Information and Training Institute K Hewage said.

On the directives of Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne this training programme is implemented in collaboration with the National Authority responsible for implementing the International Convention on Chemical Weapons, said Hewage in a press release.

The training is provided for Airport staff engaged in the relevant duties and the Institute's Fire Brigade personnel.

This programme is aimed to transform Sri Lanka as the most secure and safest place in Asia for handling dangerous chemicals according to Dr Rohan Perera, Chairman for the National Authority for implementing the Chemical Weapons Convention.

FTZ worker claims Rs. 6 mn for loss of leg

A Free Trade Zone employee, who has lost the full use of his right leg, due to the shooting by the police that occurred at Katunayake on May 30, 2011, has filed a fundamental rights violation application in the Supreme Court seeking compensation in Rs. 6,000,000.

The petitioner is an employee of the Free Trade Zone, but did not participate in the protest rally. He was on his way to a bank. The protest, although peaceful, had been disrupted by the police.

Among the respondents are officers of Seeduwa, and Negombo police.

The petitioner is A. M. Dhammika Attanayake. The FTZ employees had protested against the move by the government to introduce a pension scheme to private sector employees.

ඇඹිලිපිටිය ජල සම්පාදන හා ජලාපවහන මණ්ඩලයේ ටැංකිවල ක්ලෝරීන් විස වීමෙන් මණ්ඩලයේ සේවකයන් සිවු දෙනකු ඇඹිලිපිටිය මූලික රෝහලට ඇතුළු කර ඇත.

ඉකුත් 24 දින රාත්‍රී 11.00 ට පමණ මේ සිදුවීම නිසා මණ්ඩලයේ දැනුම් දීම මත අවට ජනතාව වෙනත් ස්ථානවලට තාවකාලිකව පදිංචියට ගොස් ඇත. ජලය උතුරා යාමෙන් මේ සිද්ධිය වූ බව පැවසෙන අතර 25දා වනවිටද දුගඳ පැවැතිණි. මේ සිද්ධිය සමඟ පදිංචිය වෙනස් කළ ඇතැම් පිරිස් යළි තම නිවෙස් කරා පැමිණ නැත.

ජල සම්පාදන මණ්ඩලය වෙත ඊයේ (25) පැමිණි නිලධාරීහු සිද්ධිය පිළිබඳව පරීක්ෂණ කටයුතු ආරම්භ කළහ. රෝහල් ගතකර සිටි සේවකයන් සිවු දෙනා සිය කැමැත්තෙන් රෝහලින් බැහැර වී ඇති බව ඇඹිලිපිටිය මූලික රෝහලේ සහකාර වෛද්‍ය අධිකාරී බන්දුල සරත් කුමාර මහතාගෙන් කළ විමසුමකදී පැවැසීය. ඔවුන්ගේ තත්ත්වය බරපතළ නොවන බවද ඒ මහතා කීය.
