පිඟන් කර්මාන්ත සංයුක්ත මණ්ඩලයේ සේවක සේවිකාවන්ට ස්වෙච්ඡා වන්දි
ප්රභාත් විතාන
ලංකා පිඟන් කර්මාන්ත සංයුක්ත මණ්ඩලයේ සේවක සේවිකාවන්ට ස්වෙච්ඡා වන්දි ලබාදීමට රාජ්ය සම්පත් හා ව්යවසාය සංවර්ධන අමාත්යාංශය කටයුතු යොදා ඇත.
ඒ අනුව එම මණ්ඩලයේ සේවක සේවිකාවන් 541 දෙනෙකු පීඊඩී 10 චක්ර ලේඛයට අනුව ස්වෙච්ඡා වන්දි ලබාදීම සඳහා රුපියල් මිලියන 500 ක මුදලක් වෙන් කර ඇතැයි රාජ්ය සම්පත් හා ව්යවසාය සංවර්ධන ඇමැති දයාශ්රිත තිසේරා මහතා පැවසීය.
මෙම වන්දි ප්රදානයෙන් අනතුරුව නව ව්යාපාර සැලසුමකට අනුව ලංකා පිඟන් කර්මාන්ත සංයුක්ත මණ්ඩලයේ ඉතිරි වන සේවකයන් යොදවමින් කර්මාන්තශාලා 4 ක් ලාබදායි මට්ටමක පවත්වාගෙන යැමට තම අමාත්යාංශය කටයුතු යොදා ඇති බවත් තිසේරා මහතා කියා සිටියේය. ලංකා පිඟන් කර්මාන්ත සංයුක්ත මණ්ඩලයේ කර්මාන්තශාලා 9 ක් අතරින් එරගම, ඇලයාපත්තුව, යටියන සහ මහියංගනය උළු කම්හල් ඉදිරියට පවත්වාගෙන යන බවත් බිංගිරි සහ උස්වැව උළු කම්හල් වසා දැමීමට නියමිත බවත් ඇමැතිවරයා කියා සිටියේය. ලංකා පිඟන් කර්මාන්ත සංයුක්ත මණ්ඩලය සඳහා රජයේ ප්රතිව්යqහගතකරණ වැඩපිළිවෙළ යටතේ ආයෝජකයන් වෙතින් යෝජනා කැඳවා තිබූ නමුත් අපේක්ෂිත අරමුණු ඉටුකර ගැනීමට සමත් යෝජනා ඉදිරිපත් නොවූ නිසා මහා භාණ්ඩාගාරයට මසකට රුපියල් මිලියන 9 ක වැය බරක්ව තිබූ නිසාත් සේවක වැටුප් ගෙවීමේ ගැටලු නිරාකරණය කිරීම සඳහා අමාත්ය මණ්ඩල අනුමැතිය යටතේ මෙසේ ස්වෙච්ඡා වන්දි ක්රමය ක්රියාත්මක කරන බව ඇමැති දයාශ්රිත තිසේරා මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් පැවසීය.

Over 90 stranded SL maids set to return home
A total of 98 stranded Sri Lankan housemaids will be repatriated this week on an initiative made by the country's consulate in Jeddah.
Consul General Adambawa Uthumalebbe said that consulate officials handed over a large group of domestic workers and six children to the Deportation Centre (Tarheel) in Jeddah.
He said that the repatriation of the runaway maids has to be streamlined through the Deportation Centre, after the mission processed the travel documents, including the emergency certificates.
The consul general said the Sri Lankan Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) provided air tickets to 42 stranded housemaids.
The others paid for their tickets to Colombo. Consulate's Labour Section head M M Jiffry said two of the six children were infants and the others aged between three and five years. Jiffry said a mission survey showed that most of the runaway maids had left their workplaces within three months after arriving in Jeddah.
The common complaints of these runaway maids included harassment and non payment of wages, he said.
However, he pointed out that some of the maids ran away looking for better salaries elsewhere.
The average contracted salary for housemaids is SR 650 per month. Saudi employers who hire the runaway maids locally pay them up to SR 1,500 a month.
A Saudi sponsor has to spend at least SR 10,000 to hire a maid from abroad, which includes visa fees, air fare and agency fees.
On an average, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh receives 10 runaway maids daily, while two such maids report to the consulate in Jeddah each day.
According to reports, some of the cases are settled at the missions through negotiations with their sponsors while others are repatriated.
The official said the mission would work out a scheme to encourage the maidservants to continue their work with the contracted Saudi sponsors till the stipulated period is over. Despite the overseas maids’ bulk foreign remittances to the national coffers of Sri Lanka, its government has plans to replace the country's overseas workers with semi-skilled and skilled workers and with professionals from Sri Lanka.
The government plans to set the maximum age limit for these maids at 43 years. The existing age limit for housemaid is currently set between 21 to 50 years.
The new rule would indirectly discourage women from going abroad to do household chores, sources from Colombo said.

More disabled youth complete vocational training

"Around seven percent of the total population of Sri Lanka are disabled and it is the aim of the government to provide them with suitable vocational training and to get them involved in the country's development process, " Social Services Minister Felix Perera said.
The minister was addressing a ceremony to present certificates and tool kits to 100 disabled youths who completed a two year course at vocational training centers attached to the Social Service Department conducted for 2010/ 2011
He said the government plans to integrate disabled people in to society by creating a social environment that provides the necessary economic opportunities to accommodate such people.
"The target group of our field of activity includes male and female youth with disabilities.
"We have arranged various types of vocational training programmes while providing necessary tool kits for youths to lead a successful life," he said.
The minister further said that several important steps were taken by the vocational training unit attached to the Department,while many new projects were initiated last year to provide vocational facilities for the disabled youth.
Minister Perera thanked foreign vocational training institutions and several local and foreign voluntary organizations who have pledged their support to upgrade technical facilities at vocational training centers and for initiating several programmes to provide trainers with the required professional and technical knowledge.
In 2011, 674 disabled youth successfully completed the vocational training courses in their respective chosen fields conducted by the Department. One hundred and twenty five disabled youth have been provided with tool kits for their vocations.

Decision to bring in Indian surveyors dropped (2 items)

මිනුම්දොaරු දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ අධ්යක්ෂ ජනරාල් එස්. එම්. ඩබ්. ප්රනාන්දු මහතා ලබාදුන් පොරොන්දුව මත මහවැලි ඉඩම්වල මැනුම් කටයුතු සඳහා ඉන්දියාවෙන් මිනුම්දොaරුවන් ගෙන්වීම තාවකාලිකව අත්හිටුවීමට වාරිමාර්ග හා ජල සම්පත් කළමනාකරණ අමාත්ය නිමල් සිරිපාල ද සිල්වා මහතා තීරණය කර ඇත.
අමාත්යවරයා මෙම තීරණය ගනු ලැබුවේ මිනුම්පතිවරයා සහ මිනුම්දොaරු දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ නිලධාරීන් සමග පෙරේදා (15 වැනිදා) වාරිමාර්ග අමාත්යාංශයේ පැවැති විශේෂ සාකච්ඡාවකදීය.
මහවැලි කලාපවල පදිංචිව සිටින ජනපදිකයන්ගේ ඉඩම් ඔප්පු ලබාදීම සඳහා ඇමැතිවරයා ගත් තීරණයට ප්රතිචාර දක්වමින් මිනුම්පතිවරයා ඇතුළු දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ මිනුම්දොaරුවෝ වසරක් තුළ මෙම සියලු මහවැලි කලාප පිහිටි ඉඩම්වල මැනුම් කටයුතු නිම කිරීමට අමාත්යවරයාට පොරොන්දු වූහ.
දිවයින පුරා කලාප 9 ක මැනුම් කටයුතු කළ යුතු ඉඩම් ප්රමාණය හෙක්ටයාර් 24734 කි. මෙය ඉඩම් කට්ටි වශයෙන් 62231 කි.
මෙම ඉඩම්වල මැනුම් කටයුතු නොකිරීම නිසා මහවැලි ජනපදිකයන්ට මෙම ඉඩම්වල ඔප්පු ලබාදීමට මහවැලි අධිකාරියට නොහැකි වී ඇත.
ලබන සතියේ සිට මෙම මැනුම් කටයුතු ආරම්භ කරන බවත් එම කටයුතු සඳහා මිනුම්දෝරු දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ සේවයේ නියුතු මිනුම්දොaරුවන් 20 දෙනකු සහ පෞද්ගලික අංශයේ සේවයේ නියුතු මිනුම්දොaරුවන් එක්දහස් එකසිය දෙනකුගේ පමණ සේවය ලබාගැනීමට කටයුතු කරන බවත් මිනුම්පතිවරයා අමාත්ය නිමල් සිරිපාල ද සිල්වා මහතාට දැන්වීය. එමෙන්ම ලබන නොවැම්බර් මස දියතලාවේ පුහුණු පාසලෙන් පිටවන පිරිසකගේ සහාය ලබාගැනීමට ද මිනුම්පතිවරයා තීරණය කර ඇත.

Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has decided to suspend his decision to bring down surveyors from India. This followed a pledge given by the Survey General’s Department yesterday.
In a discussion with the Minister, Surveyor General S. M. W. Fernando promised that the local surveyors could complete the surveying of all the Mahaweli lands within one year.
There are 24,734 hectares to be surveyed in nine Mahaweli regions comprising 62,231 blocks of land.
Fernando informed Minister De Silva that they would start work next week and 20 surveyors from the department and 1,100 private surveyors would be deployed for the task.
Besides, a new batch of surveyors passing out from the Diyatalawa training school will also join them later.
Minister de Silva told The Island that he had full confidence in the Survey General’s Department and promised to provide necessary assistance from his ministry to complete the task successfully.
"We would suspend our earlier plan to hire surveyors from India," de Silva said, adding that his ministry had allocated Rs. 40 million for the task.

සේවය අහිමි කළ 378කට කෝටි 13 1/2 කට වැඩි මුදලක් ගෙවන්නැයි අවිස්සාවේල්ලේ සමාගමකට අධිකරණයෙන් නියෝග

කිසිදු හේතුවක් නොදක්වා සේවකයන් 378 දෙනෙකුගේ සේවය හදිසියේ අවසන් කිරීම මත අවිස්සාවේල්ල කම්කරු විනිශ්චය සභාව විසින් සේවකයන් 01-06-2004 දින නැවත සේවයෙහි පිහිටුවන ලෙස 31-05-2004 දින කරන ලද නියෝගය කඩ කිරීම හේතුවෙන් එම සමාගමේ අධ්යක්ෂ මණ්ඩලයට එරෙහිව අවිස්සාවේල්ල සහකාර කම්කරු කොමසාරිස් විසින් නඩු අංක 79872 යටතේ අවිස්සාවේල්ල මහෙස්ත්රාත් අධිකරණයේ චෝදනා ගොනු කර තිබිණි.

1950 අංක 43 දරන කාර්මික ආරවුල් පනතේ 43 (2) උප වගන්තිය ප්රකාරව සේවකයන් සේවයෙහි පිහිටුවීම කළ යුතු වූ 01-06-2004 දින සිට නියෝගය ලබාදුන් 01-03-2012 දින දක්වා හිඟ වැටුප් වශයෙන් රුපියල් 13,42,53777.00 (රුපියල් දහතුන් කෝටි හතළිස් දෙලක්ෂ පනස් තුන්දහස් හත්සිය හැත්තෑ හතක්) සේවකයන් 378 දෙනාට ගෙවන ලෙසද නියෝග කෙරිණි.
හිඟ වැටුප් රුපියල් තිස් ලක්ෂය බැගින් වූ වාරික වලින් ගෙවන ලෙස නියම කළ අතර මූලික වාරිකය ගෙවීම සඳහා 10-04-2012 දිනට නියම කෙරිණි. තවද පනතේ 43 (2) වගන්තියට අනුව වරද කරු කරනු ලැබූ පසු පැහැර හැරීම තවදුරටත් සිදු වුවහොත් දිනකට රුපියල් පනහ බැගින් 01-03-2012 දින සිට 09-03-2012 දක්වා දින 07 කට රුපියල් තුන්සිය පනහ බැගින් අධ්යක්ෂවරුන් දෙදෙනාට රුපියල් හත්සියයක දඩයක් ගෙවීමට මහෙස්ත්රාත්වරයා නියම කළේය.

කිසිදු හේතුවක් නොදක්වා සේවකයන් 378 දෙනෙකුගේ සේවය හදිසියේ අවසන් කිරීම මත අවිස්සාවේල්ල කම්කරු විනිශ්චය සභාව විසින් සේවකයන් 01-06-2004 දින නැවත සේවයෙහි පිහිටුවන ලෙස 31-05-2004 දින කරන ලද නියෝගය කඩ කිරීම හේතුවෙන් එම සමාගමේ අධ්යක්ෂ මණ්ඩලයට එරෙහිව අවිස්සාවේල්ල සහකාර කම්කරු කොමසාරිස් විසින් නඩු අංක 79872 යටතේ අවිස්සාවේල්ල මහෙස්ත්රාත් අධිකරණයේ චෝදනා ගොනු කර තිබිණි.

මෙම පුරප්පාඩු පිරවීම සඳහා දක්ෂ පක්ෂ අය තෝරා ගැනීමට කාලෝචිතව පියවර ගන්නා බවද නියෝජ්ය ඇමැතිවරයා පැවැසුවේය.
දැනට පාසල්වල වැඩබලන විදුහල්පතිවරුන් 2767 ක් සිටින බව ද විදුහල්පතිවරුන් විශ්රාම ගන්නා අවස්ථාවේදී ඔවුන් විසින් ම පාසල් පාලනය කළ හැකි දක්ෂ උගත් අයකුට වැඩ බාර දී තිබෙන බව ද කී ඇමැතිවරයා එසේ බාරගත් අය වසර ගණනාවක සිට කළ සේවය හා උගත්කම මත ස්ථිර කිරීම යුක්ති සහගත බව ද කීය.

Over 8,787 government schools do not have principals, Parliament was told yesterday.
Deputy Minister of Education Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa told Parliament that his ministry had initiated a programme to fill those vacancies but the process was time consuming as it was necessary to select qualified and competent persons for those posts.
Currently, 8,767 schools are managed by acting principals, the minister said adding that those acting principals had been selected for those positions by the outgoing principals. Most of the time when principals retire from service, they appoint somebody senior with the ability to run the school. Some of those acting principals have held the position for decades.
The Deputy Minister said that action would be taken to appoint principals from those who had passed their competent examinations following a Court order and promote acting principals to the vacant positions.

කාබුල් සේවකයෝ 548කට වන්දි
2004 පෙබරවාරි 27 දින හදිසියේ වසා දමන ලද මත්තේගම කාබුල් ලේස් සමාගමේ සේවකයන් 548 දෙනකුට කම්කරු දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව මගින් වන්දි ප්රදානය කරනු ලැබීය.
එක් එක් සේවකයාට රුපියල් දෙලක්ෂ පනස්දහසකට අධික වන්දියක් ලබා දී ඇත. එම වන්දිය ගණනය කර ඇත්තේ කාබුල් ලේස් සමාගමට මෙම කම්හල පැවරූ දින සිට වැඩ කළ එක් එක් වසරට මාස දෙකක වැටුප් වශයෙනි. ජාතික පේෂකර්ම සංස්ථාවේ දළ නූල් කැටීමේ කම්හලක් ලෙස 1976 දී ආරම්භ කරන ලද්දේ එවකට කර්මාන්ත හා විද්යා කටයුතු ඇමැති ටී. බී. සුබසිංහ මහතා විසිනි.
1996 දී එම කම්හල කොරියාවේ කාබුල් සමාගමට පැවරිණි. එම සමාගම දළ නූල් කැටීම අතහැර ලේස් නිපදවීමට කටයුතු කළේය. මෙම ආයතනයේ ලේස් නිෂ්පාදනය සඳහා එම සමාගමේම බලධාරීන් වෙනත් සමාගමක් ආරම්භ කර ඇත.
මෙහි නිෂ්පාදන නිමකිරීම සඳහා එම සමාගමට ගෙන යන ලද අතර ආපසු ගෙන එන්නේ ඉන් සුළු කොටසක් පමණි. ඉතිරි නිමි කළ ලේස් එම සමාගම නමින් අපනයනය කරයි.

Alawwa train accident victims' dependants get insurance payment

The National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF) had paid Rs 1.2 million under the Agrahara medical insurance scheme to dependants of two victims of the Alawwa train accident which occurred on September 17 last year, a spokesman for the Fund told the Daily News yesterday.
The insurance payment was handed over to Transport Minister Kumara Welgama by NITF Chairman Senaka Abeygunawardena at the ministry on Wednesday. The dependents of train driver Lal Ajith Kaluarachchi and assistant train driver A A Don Nihal of the Allawwa train accident were paid insurance claims.
The spokesman said that an engine driver of whose both legs were injured by a rail accident in Puttalam last year was also paid Rs 600,000. Agrahara Medical Scheme manager Anura Samarakoon was also present.

FTZ worker claims Rs. 6 mn for loss of leg

A Free Trade Zone employee, who has lost the full use of his right leg, due to the shooting by the police that occurred at Katunayake on May 30, 2011, has filed a fundamental rights violation application in the Supreme Court seeking compensation in Rs. 6,000,000.
The petitioner is an employee of the Free Trade Zone, but did not participate in the protest rally. He was on his way to a bank. The protest, although peaceful, had been disrupted by the police.
Among the respondents are officers of Seeduwa, and Negombo police.
The petitioner is A. M. Dhammika Attanayake. The FTZ employees had protested against the move by the government to introduce a pension scheme to private sector employees.

සේවක අර්ථසාධක අරමුදලේ සාමාජිකයන්ට නිවසක් තැනීමට හෝ වෛද්ය ප්රතිකාර ලබාගැනීමට සිය ගිණුමේ ඇති ශේෂයෙන් සියයට තිහක මුදලක් ලබාගත හැකිවන පරිදි පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට ඉදිරිපත් කළ සේවක අර්ථසාධක අරමුදල් (සංශෝධන) පනත ඊයේ (18) අනුමත විය.
මේ පනත වැඩි ඡන්ද 59 කින් සම්මත විය. පක්ෂව ඡන්ද 71 ක් සහ විරුද්ධව ඡන්ද 12 ලැබුණි.
මෙම සංශෝධන පනතට අනුව නිවාස ප්රතිලාභ සහ වෛද්ය ප්රතිකාර සඳහා සිය ගිණුමෙන් සියයට තිහක මුදලක් ලබාගත හැක්කේ වසර දහයකට නො අඩු කාලයක් අරමුදලේ දායක මුදල් ගෙවා ඇති සාමාජිකයන්ට පමණි.
එමෙන්ම දැනට සේවයේ නියුතු සහ පෞද්ගලික ගිණුමේ බැරට රුපියල් ලක්ෂ තුනකට නොඅඩු මුදලක් ඇති සාමාජිකයන්ට ද මේ සියයට තිහක මුදල ලබාගත හැකි වේ.

එමෙන්ම හෘදය සැත්කම්, බයිපාස් සහ පිළිකා සඳහා ප්රතිකාර, වකුගඩු බද්ධ කිරීම, සිසේරියන් සැත්කමක් හෝ අනතුරක් සිදුවීම නිසා දින දාහතරකට නොඅඩු කාලයක් රෝහල්ගතව සිටීම වෙනුවෙන් සාමාජිකයාට හෝ ඔහුගේ කලත්රයාට හෝ දරුවන් වෙනුවෙන් සිය ගිණුමෙන් සියයට තිහක් ලබාගත හැකිය.
ඊට අමතරව සේවක අර්ථසාධක අරමුදලේ සාමාජිකයාට හා සේවා යෝජකයාට හඳුනාගැනීමේ අංකයක් ලබාදීම, සේවක අර්ථසාධක අරමුදල වෙනුවෙන් ලේකම් කාර්යාලයක් ඉදිකිරීම සඳහා එම අරමුදලේ යම් මුදල් ප්රමාණයක් කොන්දේසි මත ආයෝජනය කිරීම යන වගන්තීන් ද අදාළ පනතට සංශෝධන ලෙස එක්කිරීමට ඊයේ (18) පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේදී අනුමැතිය ලැබිණි.

මෙම පනතට විරුද්ධව එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂය, දෙමළ ජාතික සන්ධානය සහ ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදී ජාතික සන්ධානය ඡන්ද දුන්නේය.

The Employees Provident Fund (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament yesterday, with amendments by a majority of 59 votes.
According to the proposed amendments, the NIC number of an employee will be used as the EPF number and this number will not change even if the employee moves to another institution. The efficiency of the fund when paying back the EPF money to employees would be enhanced as a result of this new system. The thumb fingerprint would also be included with the NIC number to ensure the safety of thea ccount.
The amendments to the Act would also enable the employees to withdraw 30 percent of the amount in their fund if they have contributed to the fund at least for 10 years and have more than Rs. 300,000 in their individual accounts.
This money will be provided for housing purposes or medical requirements such as heart surgery, treatment for cancer including surgery, kidney transplant or surgery, cesarean operation or hospitalization for not less than 14 days on account of an accident. Every member is entitled to two withdrawals from his individual account.
The amendments have, the government says, strengthened the laws with regard to the employers who have delayed paying EPF for the employees while fines have been increased as well. Every employer who has more than 50 employees under him should furnish a report containing membership data to the Commissioner General of Labour and to the Central Bank.
The proposed amendments provide for financial allocations for the ‘Mehewara Piyasa’ a new building being constructed to be used as a Secretariat Office of the Fund.
When the bill was taken for approval the Opposition asked for a division and a vote was taken. The Bill received 71 votes in favour and 12 against. The UNP, TNA and DNA voted against it.

සේවක අර්ථසාධක අරමුදලේ සාමාජිකයන්ට නිවසක් තැනීමට හෝ වෛද්ය ප්රතිකාර ලබාගැනීමට සිය ගිණුමේ ඇති ශේෂයෙන් සියයට තිහක මුදලක් ලබාගත හැකිවන පරිදි පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට ඉදිරිපත් කළ සේවක අර්ථසාධක අරමුදල් (සංශෝධන) පනත ඊයේ (18) අනුමත විය.
මේ පනත වැඩි ඡන්ද 59 කින් සම්මත විය. පක්ෂව ඡන්ද 71 ක් සහ විරුද්ධව ඡන්ද 12 ලැබුණි.
මෙම සංශෝධන පනතට අනුව නිවාස ප්රතිලාභ සහ වෛද්ය ප්රතිකාර සඳහා සිය ගිණුමෙන් සියයට තිහක මුදලක් ලබාගත හැක්කේ වසර දහයකට නො අඩු කාලයක් අරමුදලේ දායක මුදල් ගෙවා ඇති සාමාජිකයන්ට පමණි.

ජනපතිගේ නියෝගයකින් පෞද්. විශ්රාම වැටුප් පනත පාර්ලිමේන්තුවෙන් ඉවතට!

මේ පිළිබඳ යෝජනාව මේ වනවිට කැබිනට් අනුකමිටුව වෙත ඉදිරිපත් කර ඇත. අදාළ අමාත්ය මණ්ඩල සංදේශයට ඉදිරි දිනකදී කැබිනට් මණ්ඩලයේ අනුමැතිය ලබා ගන්නා බව ද ඇමැති ලක්ෂ්මන් සෙනෙවිරත්න මහතා ප්රකාශ කළේය.

5-day week option for private firms, factories

Private sector establishments will be allowed to have a five-day week in terms of a new agreement.
The National Labour Advisory Council (NLCA) has agreed that the arrangement, particularly in factories, will be implemented if the employees and the management concur. If this happens, companies or factories will need to formulate extended work hours from Monday to Friday. The talks were presided over by Labour Minister Gamini Lokuge.
Free Trade Zones & General Services Employees Union General Secretary Anton Marcus said some employers had already introduced a five-day week in keeping with the international labour conventions. This was done on a mutual agreement between the management and the employees.
He said that since regulations had to be introduced to formalize the five-day week, the NLAC decided that for three months, the companies (with the consent of employees) could apply to the Commissioner General of Labour for permission to have a five-day week.
Under the Wages Board Ordinance, a normal working week cannot exceed 48 hours and all work over and beyond that period is considered overtime. The Shop and Office Employees Act stipulates that working hours on any one day shall not exceed eight hours, and in any one week shall not exceed 45 hours.
In the case of the Factories Ordinance Section 67, the total hours worked, exclusive of intervals for meals and rest, shall not exceed nine hours in any day or 48 hours in any week.

Nearly 10,000 educated, differently-abled youth to get jobs

The Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry will commence a programme with the backing of around 30 private and public sector institutions, to provide employment to over 10,000 educated, differently-abled youth, a Ministry official said.
The statistics reveal that nearly five percent of Sri Lankans were physically or mentally retarded.
The Government has also commenced programmes to rehabilitate the youth from the Security Forces, who were disabled due to the conflict situation and encourage them to be partners and use their skills and strengths for the future development programmes.
The official said that all steps will be taken in the near future to remove barriers in the government sector which inconvenienced people with disabilities.
The Ministry had also taken steps to provide more opportunities for people with disabilities in the State service sector, he added.
The Ministry had allocated three percent of State sector employment opportunities for people with disabilities in 1988, by a special circular and the Cabinet had decided to promote it in government and private sectors in 2004.

කලාපයේ සංක්රමණික සේවක 40% කට මන්දපෝෂණය

මෙරට නිදහස් වෙළෙඳ කලාපය තුළ සේවය කරන සංක්රමණික සේවකයන්ගෙන් සියයට 40 ක් මන්දපෝෂණ තත්ත්වයක් මත නියමිත බරට වඩා අඩු බරකින් යුතු වන බව සංක්රමණිකයන් පිළිබඳ අන්තර්ජාතික සංවිධානයේ ජ්යෙෂ්ඨ සම්බන්ධීකාරිකා වෛද්ය ශාරිකා පීරිස් මහත්මිය පැවසුවාය.
මෙම පිරිසෙන් බහුතරය එනම් සියයට 73 ක්ම කාන්තාවන් වන බව කී ඇය නිදහස් වෙළෙඳ කලාපයේ සේවය කරන එක් සංක්රමණික සේවකයකුගේ මාසික ආහාර හා සෞඛ්ය වියදම පිළිවෙලින් රුපියල් 3147 ක් හා රුපියල් 387 ක් වන බව අවධාරණය කළාය.
නිදහස් වෙළෙඳ කලාපයට අයත් අපනයන සැකසුම් කලාප 4 ක (කටුනායක, බියගම, කොග්ගල හා සීතාවක) සේවය කරන සංක්රමණික සේවකයන් ආශ්රයෙන් සිදුකරන ලද සමීක්ෂණයකදී මෙම කරුණු අනාවරණය වී තිබේ.
නිදහස් වෙළෙඳ කලාපයේ සේවකයන්ගෙන් සියයට 25.3 ක්ම කුමන ආකාරයක හෝ අනතුරක අවදානමෙන් සේවය කරන අතරතුර එවැනි අනතුරුවලට ලක්වන බවත් එම සේවකයන්ගේ කායික ආබාධවලට වැඩි වශයෙන් (57.1%) හේතු වනුයේ අධික වැඩ රාජකාරි කටයුතු එක දිගට සිදුකිරීම බවත් මෙම සමීක්ෂණයේදී අනාවරණය වී තිබේ. හටගන්නා කායික ආබාධවලින් සියයට 16 කට හේතු වී ඇත්තේ නින්ද ආශ්රිත ප්රශ්නයි.
සංක්රමණිකයන් පිළිබඳ අන්තර්ජාතික දිනය සම්බන්ධයෙන් කරුණු දැක්වීම සඳහා 19 දා කොළඹ සෞඛ්ය අධ්යාපන කාර්යාංශයේ පැවැති මාධ්ය සම්මන්ත්රණයේදී මෙම කරුණු අනාවරණය විය. මෙහිදී සංක්රමණිකයන්ගේ සෞඛ්ය සම්බන්ධයෙන් සෞඛ්ය අමාත්යාංශය විසින් නිර්මාණය කර ඇති නිල වෙබ් අඩවිය විවෘත කිරීම ද සිදුවිය.

Around 10,000 youths to be sent to Korea - Dilan
Foreign Employment and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera said yesterday that the government has taken measures to send 10,000 youths to Korea for employment in 2012.
Perera made this observation in Parliament yesterday in response to a special statement made by DNA MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The minister said that only 5,000 Sri Lankan youths will be sent to Korea for employment at higher salaries, during 2011.
He said that 9,998 youths have passed examinations and were qualified to leave to Korea. "They will be sent to Korea in 2012," he said.
The minister said that the salaries of youths leaving for Korea will be increased by 6.1 percent.
