ජාතික විදුලිබල පද්ධතියට තවත් මෙගාවොට් 150 ක ධාරිතාවක් එක්කරන කොත්මලේ ජල විදුලි ව්‍යාපෘතියේ උමං මාර්ගයට මංගල දියවර මුදාහැරීම ඊයේ (17) පෙරවරු 11.20 ට යෙදුණු සුබ මොහොතින් සිදු කෙරිණි. මේ මස අග භාගයේදී පරීක්‍ෂණ මට්ටමින් ජනන කටයුතු ආරම්භ කිරීමට නියමිතව ඇති මෙහි මෙගාවොට් 75 ක ධාරිතාවක් මුල් අදියරේ දී ජනනය කෙරේ. මෙහි ජනනය කරන මෙගාවොට් 150 ක ජල විදුලි ධාරිතාව ජාතික විදුලි පද්ධතියට එක්කිරීම ලබන මාර්තු 27 වැනිදා ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්‍ෂ මහතා අතින් සිදුකිරීමට නියමිතය. එවිට මෙතෙක් මෙගාවොට් 1207.45 වූ ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය ජල විදුලි ධාරිතාව මෙගාවොට් 1357.45 ක් වනු ඇත.

ඉහළ කොත්මලේ උමගට මංගල දියවර මුදා හැරේ

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දිගම උමග වශයෙන් සැලකෙන ඉහළ කොත්මලේ ජලවිදුලි ව්‍යාපෘතියේ උමං මාර්ගයට මංගල දියවර මුදාහැරීම ඊයේ පෙරවරු 11.20 ට යෙදුණු සුබ මොහොතින් විෂයභාර ඇමැති පාඨලී චම්පික රණවක මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් සිදුවිය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අවසන් විශාලතම ජල විදුලි ව්‍යාපෘතිය වශයෙන් සැලකෙන ඉහළ කොත්මලේ ජලවිදුලි ව්‍යාපෘතිය සඳහා ජලය සැපයෙන කොත්මලේ ඔයේ ජලය තලවාකැලේ සිට නියම්ගම්දොර දක්‌වා රැගෙන එනු ලබන කිලෝමීටර් 13 ක්‌ දිග මීටර් 5.9 ක විෂ්කම්භයකින් යුත් උමං මාර්ගයේ ප්‍රධාන දොරටුව සෙන්ටිමීටර් 10 ක්‌ පමණ විවර කිරීමෙන් තත්පරයට ඝන මීටර් 3 ක පරිමාණයකින් ජලය උමග තුළට නිකුත්කිරීම සිදුවිය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ වැඩිවන විදුලි ඉල්ලුම සපුරාලනු වස්‌ 2006.03.03 දින සුබ මොහොතින් ආරම්භ වූයේ ජනාධිපතිවරයාගේ මහින්ද චින්තන ප්‍රතිපත්තියට අනුව යමින් ඔහුගේ මඟපෙන්වීම යටතේය. 1998 වසරේදී ජාතික පාරිසරික පනතට අනුව ඉහළ කොත්මලේ ව්‍යාපෘතිය සඳහා අනුමැතිය පිරිනැමිණි. මෙම තීරණයට විවිධ විරෝධතාවන් මතුවූ අතර උසාවිය හමුවේ ඒ සියල්ලම සමථයකට පත්වීමෙන් පසුqව 2000 වසරේ මාර්තු මාසයේදී පූර්ණ වශයෙන් මේ සඳහා අනුමැතිය හිමිවිය. වාර්ෂිකව ගිගාවොට්‌ පැය 409 ක විදුලි ශක්‌තියක්‌ මෙමගින් නිපදවනු ලබයි.

ව්‍යාපෘතිය හේතුවෙන් බලපෑමට ලක්‌වූ පවුල් වෙනුවෙන් ව්‍යාපෘතිය මගින් ඉදිකළ නිවාස සංඛ්‍යාව 495 කි. ඉහළ කොත්මලේ ජල විදුලි ව්‍යාපෘතියේ ප්‍රතිපත්තිවලට අනුව බලපෑමට ලක්‌වන සියලුම නිවාස වෙනුවෙන් විකල්ප නිවාස ලබාදීම සිදුවූ අතර සියලුම නිවැසියන් නීත්‍යනුකූල හිමිකරුවන් ලෙස සලකා ඔවුන් සතුවූ නිවාසවලට වඩා වැඩි විශාලත්වයකින් යුත් ස්‌ථිර නිවාස ඉදිකළ අතර විදුලිය, නළ ජලය සහ සංවර්ධිත ප්‍රවේශ මාර්ග වැනි වැඩිදියුණු කරන ලද පහසුකම් ලබාදීම සිදුකෙරිණි. ප්‍රදේශයේ ගමනාගමන පහසුකම් සංවර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා රුපියල් මිලියන 77 ක වියදමකින් තලවකැලේ කොත්මලා ඔය හරහා මීටර් 80 ක්‌ පමණ දිග පාලමක්‌ද ඉදිකොට ඇත.

මෙම මංගල දියවර නිකුත් කිරීමේ සුබ මොහොත වෙනුවෙන් විදුලිබල හා බලශක්‌ති නියෝජ්‍ය ඇමැති ප්‍රේමලාල් ජයසේකර, ලංවිම සභාපති මහාචාර්ය විමලධර්ම අබේවික්‍රම, සාමාන්‍යාධිකාරී නිහාල් වික්‍රමසූරිය, අතිරේක සාමාන්‍යාධිකාරී සහ ඉහළ කොත්මලේ ව්‍යාපෘති අධ්‍යක්‍ෂ ශවින්ද්‍රනාත් ප්‍රනාන්දු යන මහත්වරුන් ඇතුළු විශාල පිරිසක්‌ සහභාගී වූහ.

Lanka’s longest tunnel gets water at auspicious time


The ceremonial release of water into the tunnel of the Upper Kotmale hydro electricity project took place at the auspicious time of 11.20 am yesterday under the patronage of Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

Water for the Upper Kotmale project is supplied from the Kotmale Oya through a 13 km long tunnel with a 5.9 metre diameter from Talawakelle to Niyamgamdora by opening its main gate upto 10 centimetres and three cubic metres of water is carried per second through the tunnel.

A press release by the Power and Energy Ministry said engineers have planned to commence electricity generation on an experimental basis at Upper Kotmale by the end of this month.

The planned capacity of Upper Kotmale project is 150 megawatts and it will be connected to the national grid at a ceremony presided by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on March 27. With the connection of the Upper Kotmale project to the national grid the country’s total hydro electricity generation capacity which was 1,207.45 megawatts earlier will be increased to 1,357.45 megawatts. Yesterday’s ceremony was also attended by Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara, CEB chairman Prof. Wimaladharma Abeywickrama, General Manager Nihal Wickramasuriya, Additional GM and Upper Kotmale Project Director Shavindranath Fernando.

Upper Kotmale to generate half its capacity from later this month

The 150MW Upper Kotmale hydro power plant would begin to generate half its capacity to the national grid by the end of this month, Power and Energy Ministry officials said yesterday.

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka who visited the plant yesterday said that it would be the last and the largest hydro power plant in Sri Lanka.

According to Ranawaka, the first turbine would start functioning in the latter part of this month and plans were afoot to start the other in the latter part of March. Each turbine has a 75MW capacity.

According to Ministry sources, filling water in the Upper Kotmale reservoir commenced on December 15, and it was completed within 20 hours.

Ranawaka said both local and Japanese expertise and technological know how were utilised and shared in its construction.

The government invested nearly Rs. 8,548 million and the Japanese government extended 37,817 million yen loan for the project.

Houses, Schools, grounds, community centres and road networks were built parallel to the project to accommodate people displaced by it.

Talawakelle would also be developed as a tourism zone, ministry sources added.

The Upper Kotmale reservoir was built by diverting the Kotmale Oya via a dam tunnel near Talawakelle.

All measures are also in place to build a special observation area to view St Clair’s waterfall from the new power project.
