The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has commenced an internal inquiry in addition to the investigation being carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the alleged financial frauds by three employees of Muthurajawela petroleum terminal, a subsidiary of the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal. These employees changed the data in computers related to issuing of oil from the Muturajawela petroleum terminal and deceived the administration through tampered records of the financial dealings.
The financial fraud was reported from 2004 to 2007 and the internal inquiry was completed covering the affected periods. Accordingly, Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha has directed the CPC officials to take action against them in accordance with the terms and conditions of the CPC.
The CPC has suspended their services and Police will take the legal action against them once the CID investigation is finished, the CPC sources said.
