President of the Sri Lanka Green Party, Sumith Chandrasiri, has complained to the Court of Appeal that nine varieties of forbidden pesticides have been released to the market.
A decision has been taken by the Registrar of Pesticides on August 25, 2011 to release those nine varieties, Chandrasiri says in his petition.
The Writ Application says that the arsenic content in those pesticides is too high. It has requested the Court to forbid the release of those pesticides, into the open market.
Among the respondents are the Registrar Pesticides, the Director General of Customs, the Director General of Agriculture and the Attorney General.
