Rat fever imminent due to rains

An outbreak of rat fever is imminent with the rainy season in Hambantota district, the Regional Director of Health Services Hambantota (RDHS), Dr Suranga Dolamulla said.

He said that those who were subjected to this disease are those who work in paddy fields, muddy lands and children who play in abandoned paddy fields.

He said that those were the most vulnerable places, as it was in such places that urine and refuse of rats were found.

He said that rat fever was a deadly disease as such that when symptoms of rat fever appear, patients should take immediate treatment.
