පාසල් ළමුන් ප්‍රවාහනයේදී ඇතිවන අනතුරු වළකා ගැනීම සඳහා අවශ්‍ය නීතිමය පියවර කඩිනමින් ගන්නා ලෙස ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා ඊයේ (19) පොලිස්පති එන්.කේ. ඉලංගකෝන් මහතාට උපදෙස් දී තිබේ.

ගල්කිස්ස ප්‍රදේශයේදී පෙරේදා (18) පාසල් ළමුන් ප්‍රවාහනය කළ වෑන් රථයක් අනතුරට පත්වීම පිළිබඳව ද සොයා බලා කඩිනමින් වාර්තාවක් සපයන ලෙසද ජනාධිපතිවරයා පොලිස්පතිවරයා වෙත උපදෙස් දී ඇත.

ඒ අනුව පාසල් ප්‍රවාහන සේවාවල නිරතවන රියදුරන්ගේ ප්‍රවීනතාවය සහ පළපුරුද්ද පිළිබඳ සොයා බලා පාසල් ළමුන් ප්‍රවාහනය කිරීමේ යෙදෙන්නන්ගේ සේවාව ආරක්ෂාකාරී අයුරින් සිදු කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය නීතිමය පියවර ගන්නා බව පොලිස්පති එන්.කේ. ඉලංගකෝන් මහතා පැවසීය.

එම රියදුරන්ගේ ප්‍රවීනතාවය හා පලපුරුද්ද සිසුන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාවට අත්‍යවශ්‍ය කරුණක් බවත් ඔවුන්ගේ සේවාවල දැඩි විනයක් තිබිය යුතු බවත් ජනාධිපතිවරයා අවධාරණය කර ඇත. ඒ අනුව එම සියලු කරුණු පිළිබඳ සොයා බලා පාසල් සේවාව විධිමත්ව හා ආරක්ෂාකාරී අයුරින් පවත්වාගෙන යාමට අවශ්‍ය නීතිමය පියවර ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන ලෙසද ඉලංගකෝන් මහතාට දැනුම් දී තිබේ.

දීප ව්‍යාප්තව ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන පාසල් ළමුන් ප්‍රවාහන සේවා ගුණාත්මක ආකාරයෙන් කිරීමේ විධිමත් වැඩපිළිවෙළක් ළමා රක්ෂණ අධිකාරියේ මැදිහත්වීමෙන් යුතුව සිදු කරන ලෙස ද ජනාධිපතිවරයා එම අධිකාරියේ සභාපතිනිය වෙත ද ඊයේ (19) උපදෙස් දී ඇත. පාසල් සිසුන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව පිළිබඳ දැඩිව කටයුතු කිරීම අත්‍යවශ්‍ය බවද ළමුන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව පිළිබඳ නොසලකමින් සහ අගතියක් වන අයුරින් සිදු කරන පාසල් සේවා පිළිබඳ සොයා බලා දැඩිව නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන ලෙසද ළමා රක්ෂණ අධිකාරියට හා පොලිස්පතිවරයාට ජනාධිපතිවරයා වැඩිදුරටත් උපදෙස් ලබා දී ඇත.

President wants report on school van tragedy

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday instructed Inspector General of Police NK Illangakoon to provide him with a report on the school van accident at Mount Lavinia on Wednesday, at the earliest possible.

He also instructed the IGP to conduct inquiries to ascertain the competency and experience of school van drivers, the President’s Media Unit said.

The President while giving the above instructions had also pointed out that it was imperative to look into the experience and competence of school van drivers to ensure the safety of school going children who use this mode of transport. President Rajapaksa emphahised on the need to maintain high discipline among school van transport operators, the President's Media added.

He also instructed the Child Protection Authority Chairman to come up with a viable mechanism to ensure that school transport services conform to the required standards.

He advised the CPA Chairman to take stern action against any school van driver or transport provider who does not abide by the required standards.

Nine schoolchildren were injured, two critically, when a van transporting schoolchildren collided with a private bus at Mount Lavinia around 6.50 a.m, Wednesday. Two seriously injured students and six others were admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital while one was transferred to the Colombo General Hospital. Two were later discharged after OPD treatment.

The van plying towards Colombo with nine schoolchildren was trying to overtake another vehicle when it collided with a private bus travelling in the opposite direction and then rammed into an electric post totally damaging the vehicle. Police Media Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said according to eye witnesses the van was travelling at high speed when it skidded off the road.
