The State Resource and Enterprise Development ministry is planning to close down six State entities operating under them while seven more had been recommended for restructuring for better income generation, a ministry source said.

Six State entities, including Lanka Sack Makers Corporation, Werahera Engineering Service and Wanni Tile Corporation would be closed down after addressing employee grievances, while Hingurana and Kantale Sugar Corporations, Lanka Fabric Corporation and few more entities would be restructured with the help of investors. Currently 23 State entities are operating under the ministry.

Minister of State Resource and Enterprise Development, Dayasritha Tissera said that the ministry had been able to generate a profit of Rs. 50 million from Laksala in 2011 after restructuring. He said that in 2012 the ministry plans to generate a profit of Rs. 2,000 million from the entities currently in operation.

According to the ministry, Lanka Ceramic Corporation would be restructured within this year and the Cabinet approval had been granted to introduce a compulsory retirement scheme for 576 workers. The plan had been resorted to due to failure to attract potential investors to carry out the manufacturing.
