NEW DELHI, January 15: Nuclear-armed India’s Army Chief Gen Vijay Kumar Singh said here today that nuclear weapons are not for fighting wars. They must be used only for strategic purposes.
Talking to reporters here, he said: "Nuclear weapons are not for fighting wars, let’s be quite clear on it. They have got a strategic capability, and that is where it should end."
" My Army and I are not bothered about who has nuclear weapons. We have our task cut out and we will progress along that," he declared.
Asked about media reports that Pakistan may deploy its forces along its borders with India as a defensive measure in case of any terror strike in India, he said: "It does not affect our option in anyway. Those are their options; what they want to do, they are most welcome to do."
