Milk powder importers are sticking to their guns and confirmed that they will not order fresh stocks from abroad, unless the Government approved a ‘substantial’ price hike.
Importers source told The Island that they were suffering heavy losses due to the stubbornness of the government to face the reality.
He said that they were also against the decision to introduce price control for infant milk food, as instructed by the Minister to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CCA).
The Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade sources said that they would not give in to any threats by milk powder importers and were yet awaiting a detailed report of stocks available etc.
