Sri Lanka has plans to recycle plastic waste with modern technology, but will take some time to implement the process, Environment Minister Anura Priyadashana Yapa states.
He said the process is needed massive funds and a levy on garbage removal is necessary in such a process.
Such a garbage levy could be imposed on households that piled garbage. The minister pointed out that such a levy would become necessary as the state would have to find huge sums of money for the usage of modern technology.
Referring to the ‘Pilisaru’ of the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), the minister noted it was a program to irradiate the menaces of garbage and recycle the waste in to compost fertiliser under the national solid waste management project.
There are nearly 90 ‘Pilisaru’ programs island wild assistant with production of the compost fertiliser under South Korean assistance. CEA provides dustbins in a variety of colours for the people to categorise their garbage and dumb them for collection. Minister Yapa said he aimed to make Sri Lanka a waste free nation in the near future.
