Nearly 70 percent of school service buses operated in the Anuradhapura district are in an unroadworthy condition. This was revealed by a survey of school service buses conducted recently, said Anuradhapura Motor Traffic Investigation Officer D.S.B. Dissanayake.
A sample of nearly 100 buses were subjected to the survey jointly conducted by the Provincial Motor Traffic Department, Anuradhapura Police and the Provincial Road Transport Authority. Out of them 15 percent of the buses were completely beyond and 45 percent had minor faults and owners were prohibited from deploying them unless they are repaired.
He said following the order fifty percent of the buses with minor faults have been now repaired and made roadworthy.
