කුඹුරු වැපිරීමේ කටයුතු මේ දිනවල කෙරෙන අතර වැපුරූ කුඹුරුවල වී කුණු වීම නිසා ගොවීන්ට නැවත සී සෑමටත් වී වර්ග සෙවීමටත් සිදුවී ඇත. වර්ෂාව අඩුවුණත් ටික කාලයක් ගතවන තුරු තම කුඹුරු යළි වැපිරීමට නොහැකි වී ඇත්තේ ඔයවල් හා ඇළවල් වල ජලය බැසයැම සෙමෙන් සිදුවන නිසා බව ගොවීහු ප්රකාශ කර සිටියහ.

රාජාංගනය වාන් දමයි

මේ දිනවල පවතින අධික වර්ෂාව හේතුවෙන් රාජාංගනය ජලාශයේ දොරටු දහයක් මේ වන විට විවෘත කර ඇත.
මෙම වාන් දොරටු වලින් තත්පරයට ඝන අඩි 12500 ක් කලාඔයට ජලය මුදාහැරෙන අතර ඊට අමතරව පිට වානෙන්ද ජලය පිටවී යන්නේය. මේ නිසා කලා ඔයේ ජල මට්ටම අධිකව ඇති බැවින් ඔයට නොබසින ලෙසත් කලා ඔය නිම්නයේ දෙපස ඇති නිවාස හිමියන්ට පරීක්ෂාකාරීව සිටින ලෙසටත් රාජාංගනය වාරිමාර්ග ඉංජිනේරුවරයා දන්වා සිටී.
වාන් දොරටු විවෘත කිරීමත් සමඟ එය නැරඹීම සඳහා විශාල පිරිසක් ජලාශයට එන අතර ආරක්ෂාව සඳහා ගිරිබාව පොලිසිය මගින් ජංගම හා පොලිස් මුරපළක්ද පිහිටා ඇත.

වෙහෙරගල ජලාශයෙහි ජල මට්ටම ඉහළ යැමත් සමඟ එහි ඇති වාන් දොරටු හයම විවෘත කර තිබේ.
අක්කර අඩි හැටහත්දාහකින් යුත් මෙම වෙහෙරගල ජලාශයෙහි එක් වාන් දොරටුවක් අඟල් හය බැගින් විවෘත කර ඇති අතර විවෘත කර ඇති වාන් දොරටු හයෙන් තත්පරයකට ඝන මීටර් 1830 ක ජල ධාරිතාවක් මැණික් ගඟට මුදාහැරේ.
ඒ අනුව මැණික්ගඟ යෝජනා ක්රමය යටතේ ලුණුගම්වෙහෙර පිහිටි වෙහෙරගල ජලාශයෙහි වාන් දොරටු විවෘත කර ඇති අයුරු ඡායාරූපයෙහි දැක්වේ.

Over 35,000 affected by floods

Floods in nine districts of the Northern, Eastern, North Central and Central Provinces, due to the heavy rains experienced over the last three days, have affected more than 35,000 people, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
DMC Assistant Director Pradeep Kodippili told The Island that nearly 7,500 people displaced by the floods had been accommodated in 43 IDP camps in the Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Matale, Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee and Nuwara Eliya Districts.
"Kilinochchi is the worst affected district with 15,499 people affected while 6,395 were displaced," he said adding that one death by drowning had bee reported from the Mullaitivu District.
According to him, 12095, 11381, 729 and 67 people were affected by the floods in the Mullaitivu, Jaffna, Mannar and Polonnaruwa districts respectively.
Kodippili said that the district coordinating centres of the DMC provided provided meals to those at the IDP camps.
Due to heavy rains, one bridge was damaged at Sampathwatta in Badulla, he said.
The Puttalam – Mannar and Sungawila – Somawathiya roads were inundated due to floods, Kodippili said adding that several sub roads in the Thimbiriwewa of Morawewa, in the Trincomalee District, were also under water.
Meanwhile the Irrigation Department said that more than 35 tanks and reservoirs, including Minneriya, Parakrama Samudraya, Kaudulla, Giritale, Pimburaththawa, Rajanganaya, Kalawewa, Nachchiyaduwa and Mahakanadarawa were at spill level and sluice gates were opened.
The Meteorological Department said showers and thundershowers could continue in the Northern, Eastern, North Central, Uva and Southern provinces as the North East monsoonal conditions were active.
Meteorologist – in – charge Chaminda de Silva told The Island that the new monsoon was activated with some atmospheric disturbances to the south of the country.
"Fairly heavy rainfall and strong winds at times are expected is some places," he said.
Silva said that showers will be experienced is several places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces too, while chilly conditions were also expected over the country.
Showers or thundershowers will continue in the sea areas around the island, particularly in the deep and shallow sea areas off the western, south-eastern, southern and southwestern coasts, he said.
The sea areas around the island, especially deep sea areas, will be rough at times with fairly strong winds Silva said adding that the fishing and naval communities were requested to be vigilant.
