Quacks appear on TV health ads
The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) claims that quacks appear on television advertisements to promote health products.
GMOA Additional Secretary, Dr. Sankalpa Marasinghe told Lankapuwath news service there were 40,000 quacks operating in the country.
Many of those quacks appear on TV advertisements posing off as registered doctors and the GMOA is now probing the issue, Dr. Marasinghe said.
He said complaints were increasing regarding quacks and the GMOA would shortly take necessary action against such men who pose off as doctors registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
Meanwhile, the Government is to take stern action on registered doctors appearing on TV commercials, the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) said.
Doctors who are registered with the Medical Council are not allowed to appear on TV commercials, Dr Sankalpa Marasingha disclosed.
Inquiries are now being made to clarify whether the persons appearing as doctors in TV advertisements on food and medicine are registered medical doctors at the Medical Council, he said.

වෙළෙඳ දැන්වීම්වලට පෙනීසිටින ශ්රී ලංකා වෛද්ය සභාවේ ලියාපදිංචි වී සිටින වෛද්යවරුන් සම්බන්ධයෙන් වහාම පරීක්ෂණයක් පැවැත්වීමට රජයේ වෛද්ය නිලධාරින්ගේ සංගමය තීරණය කර ඇත.
ශ්රී ලංකා වෛද්ය සභාවේ ලියාපදිංචි වී සිටින වෙළඳ දැන්වීම්වලට පෙනීසිටීමට නොහැකි නිසාත්, එය වෛද්යවරුන්ට සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම නීති විරෝධී නිසාත් මේ තීරණය ගත් බව එම සංගමයේ උප ලේකම් වෛද්ය සංකල්ප මාරසිංහ මහතා පැවැසුවේය. විවිධ විද්යුත් හා මුද්රිත මාධ්ය උපයෝගී කර ගනිමින් ප්රචාරය කරන ඖෂධ හා ආහාර වර්ග බොහොමයකට වෛද්ය යන නිල නාමය යටතේ පුද්ගලයෝ පෙනී සිටිති.
ඔවුන් ශ්රී ලංකා වෛද්ය සභාවේ ලියාපදිංචි වී සිටින සැබෑ වෛද්යවරුන් ද යන්න සොයා බැලීම මෙහිදී සිදු කෙරේ.
වෛද්ය නිල නාමයෙන් ව්යාජ වෛද්යවරු හතළිස් දහසක් (40,000) පමණ මෙරට වෛද්ය සේවයේ යෙදී සිටිති. වෙළෙඳ දැන්වීම්වලට වෛද්ය නිල නාමයෙන් මේ ව්යාජ වෛද්යවරුන් පෙනී සිටින බව රජයේ වෛද්ය නිලධාරින්ගේ සංගමයට පැමිණිලි බොහෝ සංඛ්යාවක් ලැබී තිබෙන බව ද හෙතෙම පැවැසීය.
