විදුලිය හොරෙන් ලබා ගැනීම නිසා වසරකට රුපියල් කෝටි 600 ක පාඩුවක්‌ විදුලිබල මණ්‌ඩලයට සිදුවන බව ඇමැති පාඨලී චම්පික රණවක මහතා ඊයේ (25 දා) පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේදී ප්‍රකාශ කළේය. වාර්ෂික විදුලි නිෂ්පාදනයෙන් සියයට හතරක්‌ මෙසේ ඇතැම් පුද්ගලයින් විසින් හොරෙන් ගන්නා බවද බිල්පත් නොගෙවා හොරෙන් ගන්නා විදුලියේ වටිනාකම වන රුපියල් කෝටි හයසිය වසරකට සමෘද්ධි සහනාධාරය ලබාදීමට වැයවන මුදලට වඩා වැඩි බවද ඇමැතිවරයා කීවේය.
විදුලිය වැඩිපුරම හොරෙන් ලබාගන්නේ උතුරු නැගෙනහිර පළාත්වල පුද්ගලයින් බවද කී ඇමැතිවරයා විදුලි නිෂ්පාදිතයෙන් සියයට 23 ක්‌ වසරකට නාස්‌ති වන බවද කීය.
නිෂ්පාදනය වන විදුලි බලයෙන් බිල් ගත වන්නේ සියයට හැත්තෑ හතක ප්‍රමාණයක්‌ පමණක්‌ බවද එය මේ වන විට සියයට අසූහත දක්‌වා වර්ධනය කරගෙන තිබෙන බවද ඇමැතිවරයා කීවේය.
ඒ අනුව මේ වන විට නාස්‌ති වන්නේ විදුලි නිෂ්පාදනයෙන් සියයට දහතුනක්‌ බවද කී ඇමැතිවරයා ඉන් සියයට හතරක්‌ බිල් නොගෙවා හොරෙන් විදුලිය ගන්නා බවද කීය.
විදුලි නාස්‌තිය සියයට නවය දක්‌වා අඩුකර ගැනීම විදුලිබල මණ්‌ඩලයේ ඉලක්‌කය වී ඇතැයිද කී ඇමැතිවරයා විදුලිබලය හොරෙන් ගන්නා පුද්ගලයන්ට එරෙහිව නීතිය දැඩිව ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන බවද පැවසුවේය.
එමෙන්ම ජලාශවල ජලය තිබුණත් නැතත් කප්පාදුවකින් තොරව විදුලිය සපයන බව කී ඇමැතිවරයා වසර පනහකට පසු නිරිත දිග මෝසම් වැසි අඩුවෙන්ම ලැබුණේ මෙවර බවද කීය. එහෙත් ඉන්ධන භාවිතයෙන් විදුලිය සපයන බවද කී ඇමැතිවරයා කවුරු කුමක්‌ කීවත් විදුලි කප්පාදුවක්‌ සිදු නොකරන බවද කීය.
ඇමැතිවරයා ඉහත ප්‍රකාශය කළේ මාතර දිස්‌ත්‍රික්‌ (එජාප) මන්ත්‍රී බුද්ධික පතිරණ මහතා ඇසූ පැනයකට පිළිතුරු දෙමිනි.

Power piracy costs CEB Rs 6 bn yearly

Power piracy costs the Ceylon Electricity Board six billion rupees annually, Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka told Parliament yesterday.
Pirates steal around four percent of the annual power production and the cost of the stolen electricity was more than the cost of providing Samurdhi benefits to the people, the minister said.
He said the highest number of power piracy cases was reported from the Northern and the Eastern Provinces. Around 23 percent of the country’s total power output had gone unaccounted for at the time he assumed duties as the minister. Only 77 percent of the production was billed. The percentage of billed power had increased to 87 percent after raids and legal action. Accordingly, the percentage of unsettled and unaccounted bills was now around 13 percent, of which four percent was due to power piracy.
The CEB targeted bringing down the percentage of power losses to nine percent and severe action would be taken against the power pirates, the minister said.
The Board was now is in a position to provide continuous power supply, whether the water reservoirs received enough rainfall or not. The reservoirs had recorded the lowest rainfall this year due to the failure of monsoon rains to materialize fully, he said adding that the power supplies were maintained by generating electricity from fuel. "Come what may we would provide uninterrupted power supply," he said.
Minister Ranawaka was responding to a question raised by UNP Matara District MP Buddhika Pathirana.
