අකුරැස්ස මාලිම්බඩ ප්‍රදේශයේදී පාසල් දැරියක සහ කාන්තාවක සති දෙකකදී මරණයට පත් කළ මිනීමරු කිඹුලා වනජීවී දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ නිලධාරීන් විසින් පාලටුව උතුරු මාලිම්බඩ කුඩා දූව ප්‍රදේශයේ නිල්වලා ගඟේ දී අල්ලාගෙන ඇත.
කිඹුලා කූඩුවෙන් පිටතට ගැනීමට උත්සාහ දරන අයුරු.
කිඹුලා යකඩ කූඩුවේ සිර වී සිටි අයුරු.
දින හයක් තිස්සේ අඩි 18 ය 4 යකඩ කූඩුවක් තුළ දමා තිබූ ඇම කෑමට ගොස් අප්‍රේල් 14 වන දින රාත්‍රී කාලයේදී කිඹුලා හසු වී ඇත. මේ කිඹුලා අඩි 12 ක් පමණ දිග අඩි 4 ක් පමණ ප්‍රමාණයක මහත ඇති ගැට කිඹුල් වර්ගයේ පිරිමි සතෙකි.
පසුගිය 04 වන දින උතුරු මාලිම්බඩ කුඩා දූව ප්‍රදේශයේ පදිංචි පාලටුව ගුණරත්න විද්‍යාලයේ සිසුවියක වන නුවන්තිකා තත්සරණි (18) දැරිය බිලිගත් ස්ථානයේදීම මේ කිඹුලා අල්ලා ගැනීම විශේෂත්වයකි.
වනජීවී සංරක්‍ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ පශු වෛද්‍ය තාරක ප්‍රසාද් මහතා ඇතුළු නිලධාරීන්ගේ සහ පරිසරවේදීන් කණ්ඩායමක සහාය ඇතිව දින හයක් තිස්සේ කරන ලද මෙහෙයුමක ප්‍රතිඵලයක් වශයෙන් මේ මිනීමරු කිඹුලා අල්ලා ගැනීම ප්‍රදේශ ජනතාවගේ භීතිය යම් මට්ටමකට තුරන් කිරීමට හේතු වී ඇත.
මේ කිඹුලා මීට දින දෙකකට පෙර එම ස්ථානයේදීම දිය මතුපිට සිට ඇති අතර එම අවස්ථාවේදී කිඹුලා අල්ලා ගැනීමට මෙහෙයුම් කණ්ඩායමට නොහැකි වී ඇත්තේ ගමේ ජනතාව විශාල ලෙස එම ස්ථානයට රොක් වී බාධා කිරීම නිසා කිඹුලා දින දෙකක කාලයක් තිස්සේ මතු නොවීම බව පරිසරවේදී සුජීව චන්දන මහතා පවසයි.
ගමේ ජනතාවට කරුණු පැහැදිලි කිරීමෙන් පසු ඔවුන්ගේ සහාය උපරිම ලෙස මේ මෙහෙයුමට ලැබීමත් සමඟ කිඹුලා අල්ලා ගැනීමට මෙහෙයුම් කණ්ඩායමට හැකි වී ඇත.
මාතර කිරලකැලේ අක්කර 50 ක භූමියක කිඹුල් උද්‍යාන ඉදිකරන තෙක් ;ම් කිඹුලා තාවකාලිකව මාතර තාරකා කොටුවේ ආරක්‍ෂිතව රඳවා තැබීමට කටයුතු යොදා ඇත.
මේ සිද්ධිය නැරැඹීම සඳහා විශාල ජනතාවක් එක්රොක් වී සිටි අතර එම පිරිස් හැසිරවීම සඳහා මාතර ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ පොලිස් අධිකාරි දේශබන්දු තෙන්නකෝන් මහතාගේ උපදෙස් පරිදි මාතර, කඹුරුපිටිය, තිහගොඩ, කනංකේ පොලිස් ස්ථානවලින් පොලිස් නිලධාරන් ද යොදවා තිබුණි.

නිල්වලා ගඟේදී වනජීවී නිලධාරීන්ගේ උගුලකට කොටුවූ මිනීමරු කිඹුලාට අමතරව ඊට නුදුරින් ගඟේ පාවෙමින් තිබූ කිඹුලකුගේ මළ සිරුරක්‌ වනජීවී නිලධාරීන් විසින් සොයා ගෙන තිබේ.
වනජීවී මෙහෙයුම් අධ්‍යක්‍ෂ එම්. ඩී. රත්නායක මහතා පැවසුවේ මියගිය කිඹුලාගේ මරණය සිදුවීමට හේතුව සොයා ගැනීමට පරීක්‍ෂණයක්‌ ආරම්භ කර ඇති බවයි.
කිඹුලන් ඇල්ලීම සඳහා යොදා ගනු ලබන උගුල්වලට ලෙඩ වී මියගිය විවිධ සතුන් යොදා ගැනේ. උගුලට හසුකර අල්ලා ගත් කිඹුලා දෙහිවල සත්තුවත්තට භාර දෙන බවද රත්නායක මහතා කීවේය. මෙම උගුලට ලෙඩ වී මියගිය හාවෙකු යොදවා තිබූ බව පැවසේ.
මෙහි තවත් උගුලකට ලෙඩ වී මියගිය මුවකු ද යොදවා ඇති බව වාර්තාවේ.

Dead and live crocs caught

A Wild Life Department operation to capture man eating crocodiles in Nilwala River since last Friday bore an unexpected result yesterday morning when along with a twelve foot male croc it fished out the carcass of dead crocodile at Malimbada North in the Akuressa police area.
According to Director Operations of the Department they suspected the dead crocodile to have been poisoned and they were conducting tests to determine the cause of its death.
The captured croc, he said would be transferred to the Dehiwala Zoo. Officials had used a rabbit and a deer that had died of natural causes as bait in two separate traps to capture crocodiles and the 12foot croc had got caught to the trap set with the dead rabbit.
A woman and a school girl were killed within the past few weeks after being attacked by crocodiles; both the dead and the live crocodiles were caught in the general area where the killer crocs struck.

The man eating crocodile believed to be responsible for the killing of a school girl in Nilwala river had been captured by the Wildlife officers, Wildlife Conservation Department Director Operations H D Ratnayake told the Daily News yesterday.
He said that a special operation to capture the crocodile was launched last Wednesday by a team of Wildlife officers with the support of Young Zoologists Association.
He said that a male crocodile 12 feet long was trapped last morning at the same spot where the school girl was attacked. Ratnayake said that the crocodile would be handed over to the National Zoological Gardens. He said that another crocodile was found dead on the banks of the Nilwala river yesterday. He said that investigations are continuing to find out the cause of the death. He observed that the dead crocodile was 14 feet in length.
