Additional District Judge of Colombo Amal Ranaraja yesterday extended, till May 3, 2012, the enjoining order, issued on the Joint Federation of Paramedical Trade Unions restraining them from resorting to strike action.
A group of patients, seeking treatment at government hospitals, had complained to the Court that the impending strike was detrimental to the interests of patients. They said the trade unions should not resort to strikes while the Health Ministry was negotiating with their members. The petitioner had wanted the Court to prohibit any unreasonable strike by the unions.
