The government has taken measures to create a special procedure to sell rice at a subsidized price through Lak Sathosa outlets with the support of the Paddy Marketing Board, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane said. Participating in the opening ceremony of the 265th Lak Sathosa outlet established in Weligama, Minister Abeywardane said that with the support of the PMB and Lak Sathosa paddy will be purchased at a fair price from farmers and rice sold at a fair price to consumers with the objective of protecting both the farmer and consumer.
“We will also take measures to sell fresh fruits and vegetables through Lak Sathosa outlets.” the minister said.
“It is our responsibility to protect farmers as well as consumers. Under the present government there is no risk to the farmers’ livelihood. The government always tries to create a good market for the farmers to enable to sell their produce at a fair price,” he said.
