Fined for not clearing mosquito breeding sites

Fines totalling Rs. 7,000 were imposed by Horana Magistrate Mahinda Ranasingha on five persons who had failed to clear mosquito breeding grounds.

On the same day two people who had thrown away left-over food on the main road were fined Rs 1,000 each.

Ingiriya Police Environment Unit had made these arrests.

Meanwhile, two people found guilty of producing food items without adhering to sanitary requirements were fined Rs. 7,500 each by the Horana Magistrate.

Fines totalling Rs. 9,000 were imposed by the Horana Magistrate on two people who had smoked in a public place and one person who had behaved badly due to the influence of alcohol.

The magistrate fined Rs. 3,000 on each person. Meanwhile, a person arrested by the Ingiriya Police for transporting sand in a lorry without a permit, was fined Rs. 50,000 by the Horana Magistrate.

The magistrate ordered the stock of sand to be confiscated.
