Japan provides Rs 9.4 m for rural development

The Japanese government has extended Rs 9.4 million of grant aid to the rural development project in Ratnapura district to improve living standards through livelihood assistance of residents of Balangoda and Pelmadulla Divisional Secretariat divisions.

Under the project water supply facilities will be improved, roads will be reconstructed along with four water supply schemes and seven agro wells. This development project will be implemented by the Sabaragamuwa Community Development Foundation and around 400 families will benefit.

The Japanese government had provided many financial grants to Sri Lanka since 1989. Around Rs.3,100 million had been granted by the Japanese government under the GGP, said Japanese Ambassador Nobuhito Hobo addressing the grant signing ceremony for the new project held at the Ambassador's residence yesterday. Grant contracts were signed between Japanese Ambassador Nobuhito Hobo and Sabaragamuwa Community Development Foundation Chairman Palitha Dias Seneviwickrama.
