The Power and Energy Ministry has called on the public to cooperate with officers of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to minimise power outages caused by prevailing adverse weather conditions.
Stringent legal action will be taken against persons who grow trees and plants, obstructing electricity lines, Ministry sources said.
The Ministry spends huge amounts of money to renovate damaged electricity lines every year.
Even though regional electricity depots cut down branches of trees which obstruct electricity lines, people grow trees and plants ignoring CEB instructions, the Ministry said.
Electrocution caused by trees falling on power lines has claimed many lives.
The Ministry has called upon consumers to inform them of any negligence on the part of CEB regional depot officers in this regard on CEB hotline 1987 and LECO hotline 1910.
