The Economic Development Ministry has drawn up plans to provide 4,000,000 coconut saplings among Divi Neguma beneficiaries countrywide, Economic Development Ministry Additional Secretary R R A K Ranawaka said.
Around 2,000,000 coconut saplings will be provided among Divi Neguma beneficiaries in the wet zone on April 5, he said.
The 2,000,000 coconut saplings will cover 60,000 acres, Ranawaka said.
The ministry will launch this project under the Divi Neguma programme. Coconut saplings will be taken to the ministry from the nurseries of the Coconut Development Board, the Additional Secretary said.
Coconut saplings will be supplied among land owners after preparing their lands for coconut cultivation, Ranawaka said.
Coconut saplings will be provided by the Economic Development Ministry through facilitators as well as Gramaseva, Samurdhi and agricultural officers.
