මහාමාර්ග අනතුරු නිසා සිදුවන තුවාල වැළැක්වීම පිළිබඳව ජනතාව දැනුවත් කිරීමේ සතියක් මෙම මස 14 වැනිදා සිට 20 වැනිදා දක්වා ප්රකාශයට පත්කිරීමට සෞඛ්ය අමාත්යාංශය පියවර ගෙන ඇත.
මෑත කාලයේ රට තුළ මාර්ග අනතුරු රැසක් වාර්තාවීම නිසා සෞඛ්ය අමාත්යාංශය මෙම තීරණය ගෙන තිබේ.
මෙරට සිදුවන මාර්ග අනතුරු හේතුවෙන් වාර්ෂිකව පුද්ගල මරණ 2000-2500 ක් අතර ප්රමාණයක් සිදුවන බවත් වාර්ෂිකව මාර්ග අනතුරු 80,000 ක් පමණ සිදුවන බවත් සෞඛ්ය අමාත්යාංශය සඳහන් කරයි.

Annual road accidents death toll 2,500

A National Awareness Week on the ‘Prevention of Road Traffic Injuries’organised by the Health Ministry will be held from November 14 to 20 in hospitals and Non Communicable Disease offices countrywide.
The spokesman for the Health Ministry said that the decision had been taken to conduct a series of awareness programmes following the large number of road accidents that occurred recently. In some cases entire families had been killed in road accidents.
The programme will be conducted by the Injuries Prevention Unit.
The spokesman said that approximately 2,000 to 2,500 people died of road traffic accidents annually. At least six people were killed daily. Over 80,000 road traffic accidents occurred annually. At least two people were severely injured every hour. An accident occurred every ten seconds in some part of the country.
The number of accidents had increased with the development of roads. Carelessness and drunkenness and speeding were the main causes.
