The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) will release its latest report after examining and inquiring account reports of all 249 public enterprises in the country for the first time in COPE history, COPE chairman and Human Resources Senior Minister D E W Gunasekera told the Daily News yesterday.
He said that the Committee anticipates to complete the inquiries on all public enterprises by tomorrow. He said that all state institutions, except the ministries and departments, were scrutinized for corruption, malpractices and frauds.
The Heads of the institutions were summoned before the COPE for inquiries on account reports submitted to COPE by the Auditor General. He observed that the report will be presented to Parliament before the commencement of budget debate. This will be the biggest COPE report released up to now. The COPE comprises 15 government members and 15 opposition members and acts as an independent body. He observed that the government will take appropriate steps after studying the content of the report.
