The Lak Wijaya coal power plant or the Norochcholai Plant as it is known in Puttalam would not be handed over to any company or a country, a senior minister said.
In response to claims Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka said that the Norochcholai coal power plant will be not assigned to any Chinese company.
The Minister said that a temporary agreement was reached with the Chinese company, China Machinery and Engineering Corporation to get their technical expertise and to monitor the plant’s functions in the initial stages.
Ranawaka has reiterated that the agreement was a short term one.
He stressed that the coal power plant in Norochcholai has not been assigned to any company or country on a permanent basis.
