The Poonagari, Pallai, Mulangavil hospitals in the Kilinochchi district and Oddusuddan hospital in Mullaitivu will be reconstructed with grant assistance of the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM).
The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 213 million. Rs. 190 million will be granted by USPACOM and the remaining Rs. 23 million will be borne by the Sri Lankan Government, Health Ministry sources said. The reconstruction project consists of a maternity ward, ETU, OPD, paediatric wards, consultants’ rooms and other facilities, according to Ministry sources.The Cabinet has granted permission to the proposal submitted by Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena, the sources said.
The Government is paying considerable attention to health sector development in the Northern Province.
As the resettlement of displaced persons is nearing completion, medical facilities must be improved, sources said.
