උතුරු දුම්රිය මාර්ගයේ අඹන්පොළ හා ගල්ගමුව දුම්රිය ස්ථාන දෙක අතර පිහිටි මී ඔය ප්රදේශයේදී දුම්රිය මාර්ගය හරහා ගමන් කරමින් සිටි වල් අලි තිදෙනකු දුම්රියක ගැටී බරපතල තුවාල ලබා ඇත.
කොළඹ කොටුවේ සිට වවුනියාව බලා ගමන් කරමින් තිබූ භාණ්ඩ ප්රවාහන දුම්රියට මොවුන් වැදී ඇත්තේ ඊයේ (08 වැනිදා) අලුයම 3 ට පමණය. එහිදී තුවාල ලැබූ වයස අවුරුදු 10 ක පමණ ඇතින්නියක් මියයැමට ආසන්නව දැඩි තුවාල සහිතව වැටී සිටියාය. ඉතිරි ඇතින්න හා පැටවා දැඩි පරිශ්රමයකින් මී ඔය කැලයට ගමන් කළහ.
මෙම අලි තිදෙනාට ප්රතිකාර කිරීම සඳහා වනජීවී නිලධාරීහු යුහුසුළුව ක්රියා කරමින් සිටිති. වෛද්ය චන්දන ජයසිංහ මහතාගේ අධීක්ෂණය යටතේ වෛද්යවරුන් ඇතුළු නිලධාරීන් වල් අලින් බේරා ගැනීමට ඊයේ සවස් වනතුරු වෙහෙසමින් සිටියහ. නිරන්තරයෙන් මෙම ප්රදේශයේදී වල් අලින් පාර මාරුවන බවද දැන ගැනීමට තිබේ.

Train knocks down jumbos

Four wild elephants were injured when the Vavuniya-Colombo mail train hit them near Galgamuwa Devagiripura yesterday morning. The Galgamuwa police said that the incident occurred around 3.05 am near the seven and half kilometre post.
The wounded wild elephants also include a calf. The residents said that a herd of about 40 wild elephants had been roaming in the Galgamuwa Getadivula Teak reserve. This herd crosses the Vavuniya-Colombo railway track as a habit at night and several of them had been knocked down during the past few days.
The wounded calf lay prone at the place of accident. The other three elephants had run to a nearby bush. Galgamuwa police are investigating into the incident.
