Ministry aims to build 50,000 houses in 2012

The National Housing Development Authority has constructed 20,000 houses under the Jana Sevana programme during 2011 at a cost of Rs 10,321 million. It has planned to construct 50,000 houses in 2012.

The number of houses to be constructed under the Jana Sevana programme is one million.

Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said so at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Welangollawatta housing scheme, Kurunegala held recently.

It has been planned to construct 23 well-equipped houses in this scheme.

The housing loan of Rs 7,500 that was granted in 1984 has been increased to Rs 500,000 now.
