A ‘valampuri’ (a rare conch) was taken into custody by the Weeraketiya police who acted on a tip-off, while it was being transported in a van to Weeraketiya from Udawalawa area.
The police arrested seven suspects with24 live cartridges, a plastic pistol and two others conches in their possession at a road block in the Weeraketiya town.
The suspects were produced before the Walasmulla Magistrate and remanded.
Weeraketiya police OIC Chief Inspector Laksiri Chandimal and Inspector of police T. H. Bandula are conducting investigations.
