Dengue on the rise again

Dengue fever is rapidly increasing all over the country again and is threatning to reach epidemic levels. The total number of dengue deaths reported has passed 100.
The public should continue to be vigilant and pay special attention to keeping their living premises and surroundings free of dengue mosquito breeding spots a Health Ministry spokesman warned.

According to the spokesman, destroying dengue mosquito breeding sites is the most effective way of preventing dengue. Meanwhile the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry has released the latest statistics on the dengue situation in the country.

According to there statistics a total of 13,126 dengue cases had been reported from all parts of the country by July 25. According to the same statistics, the highest number of dengue cases, (5066) had been reported from the Colombo district. Colombo Municipal Council area recorded 1,804 Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases.
