The Meteorological Department yesterday predicted more rains in the Northern, Eastern, North Central, Uva, Central and Southern Provinces in the next two days as a low pressure area developed in the atmosphere with the Northeast monsoonal conditions setting in.

"The atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka has intensified into a low pressure area and is affecting the weather over Sri Lanka and surrounding sea areas," he said.

Yasaratne said however that heavy rain fall and strong winds at times are also expected at other areas of the country.

Showers or thundershowers would continue in the sea areas too and fishermen were advised to be precautionary to avoid possible calamities, he said.

"Winds will be from north-easterly direction and speed will be 40-50 km/h," he said adding that the speed may increase up to 60-70 km/h at times.
