Elephant with leg injury still suffers

By Our Horowpothana Corr. Upul Thammita

An elephant unable to move due to its wounded leg had fallen into the Thorawewa irrigation reservoir near the Habarana Maradankdala was seen for the past eight days trying to get out from the water.

Residents said the animal may have been shot at and one of his legs could be badly injured. They said the animal was in a very weak condition and it could not move as well. Some residents had called to the forest office of the Wildlife Department and the police emergency service but no response was received from either.
Residents believe that the animal’s forefoot that appeared to be bad may be subject to gangrene and it could die soon.
