Sixty dengue deaths from 10,350 cases

Of the 10,350 dengue cases reported in the island during the past six months, 60 deaths have been reported. No dengue deaths have been reported last week, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

"This is a significant drop in dengue deaths when compared with previous years," the spokesman said.

The Health Ministry is also preparing a report to assist dengue patients and health professionals under the direction of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena, the Ministry spokesman said.

The report will focus on the 60 dengue deaths and dengue patients who have been cured. The report results will assist to keep dengue death rate low, the spokesman said.

"The report will find out the reasons for the deaths of dengue patients and will also find out whether the dead dengue patients had followed the guidelines and if they sought medical treatment on time. It will also find out the other reasons that led to dengue deaths. The report will also find out how dengue patients were fully cured and what led them to be cured quickly and successfully, he said.

Meanwhile, the Medical Research Institute (MRI) inspected 62 potential dengue mosquito breeding sites recently. Out of those 62 places, six were inside State institutions.

Industrial wastage is another main problem which has direct link to dengue mosquito breeding. Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Hambantota, Galle, Puttalam, Battricaloa, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Trincomalee and Matara districts have been identified as high risk areas. The National Mosquito Control Week will be held from June 20 to 26.

ශීඝ්‍ර ලෙස වැඩිවන ඩෙංගු මදුරු වසංගතය හේතුවෙන් කොළඹ නගරයේ දිනකට රෝගීන් 20 කට අධික පිරිසක් රෝහල් ගත වන බව කොළඹ මහා නගර සභාවේ ප්‍රධාන සෞඛ්‍ය වෛද්‍ය නිලධාරී වෛද්‍ය ප්‍රදීප් කාරියවසම් මහතා පවසයි. මෙම පිරිසගෙන් සියයට 50 ක් කාන්තාවන් වන බව පවසන කාරියවසම් මහතා, ඉන් සියයට 20 ක් වයස අවුරුදු පහට අඩු ළමයින් බව හඳුනාගෙන ඇතැයි කීය.
ගිය වසරට වඩා මේ වසරේ ප්‍රතිශතයක් ලෙස ගත් කළ ඩෙංගු රෝගීන් සියයට 50 කින් වර්ධනය වී තිබෙන බවද හෙතෙම පෙන්වා දෙයි. ඝන අපද්‍රව්‍ය කළමනාකරණය විධිමත් නොවීම මීට ප්‍රධාන හේතුවක් වී ඇතැයි පෙන්වාදෙන වෛද්‍ය කාරියවසම් මහතා, ආයතන හා ගෙවතු අපිරිසුදු වී මාර්ග පිරිසුදුවීමෙන් පමණක් ඩෙංගු වසංගතයෙන් වැළකිය නොහැකි බවද ප්‍රකාශ කරයි.
මදුරු මර්දන සතිය යෙදී ඇති 20-26 දිනවල කොළඹ නගරයේ එක් එක් පරිපාලන දිස්ත්‍රික්ක තෝරා විශේෂ වැඩසටහන් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට කොළඹ මහා නගර සභාවේ ජන සෞඛ්‍ය දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව පියවර ගෙන තිබේ.
ඒ සඳහා යුද හමුදාවේ සහ පොලීසියේ සහාය ලබා ගැනීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වන බව කාරියවසම් මහතා සඳහන් කරයි.
