'Poorly managed state resources to be taken over'

Disna MUDALIGE

The government has decided to take over all state resources which are not properly maintained, National Languages and Social Integration Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara told the Daily News yesterday. He said that a special Act to facilitate this move will be presented to Parliament by the Defence Ministry during the first week of November. He said that state institutions and lands given to private companies and individuals will be taken over if those parties have failed to use or manage them effectively.

He noted that taking over these lands and institutions will help save millions of money for the government. He observed that many plantation lands given to private companies and individuals have gone to ruin and have become barren since those have not been cultivated for long years.

He said that the government's aim from this move is to ensure efficient use and management of state resources for the benefit of the country.
