Kandy – A hotel owner of Talwatta Road, Kandy was fined Rs. 30,000 by the Kandy Chief Magistrate S. U. B. Karalliyadda on being found guilty of releasing sewage into the common drain from his building.
The fine was to be paid in installments of Rs. 5000.
The hotel owner was prosecuted by the OIC Multi-Complaints Unit of the Kandy police after inquiring into the complaints made by the neighbours that the hotel. Sewage was polluting their environment and posing a health hazard.
