Public warned against landslides

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) requested people residing near hill sides and slopes to be vigilant of landslides and falling rocks with the intensive rainfalls experienced during the inter monsoonal period.

NBRO Geologist R M S Bandara observed that since the inter monsoonal showers occur all over the island, it is difficult to specifically name landslide prone areas. He noted that no landslides have been reported so far in the island. Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department urged the public to take adequate precautions to prevent lightning accidents. Met Department Duty Forecaster Chaminda de Silva told the Daily News that two persons had died during this month while three persons were reported injured after struck by lightning.

He also forecast thunder showers in many parts of the island in the evening or night today adding that at times rough winds may be experienced during thunder showers. (DM)
