A stock of imported cement that had been received at the Colombo port yesterday morning will be issued to the market at the price of Rs. 640 per 50kg bag, Sri Lanka Cement Corporation chairman Sisira Jinendra Paranagama told the Daily News.
The Cement Corporation had imported 50,000 bags of cement and they will receive another 200,000 cement bags at the end of this month,he added.
Several parties are spreading rumours about a cement shortage and they are trying to increase the price of cement.
'But there is no cement shortage in the country and the Cement Corporation is not going to raise the price of cement. The Corporation is selling cement at a fairly cheaper rate and is not looking for a price hike, Paranagama further added.
