Validity altered on packets of agro chemicals

In a raid carried out on a reputed Company which imports and distributes agro chemicals, it was found that the company had allegedly disregarded the validity date printed by the manufacturer and had printed leaflets giving a fresh validity date.

The raid on the company situated at Brhamanagama in Pannipitiya had been carried out by the Consumer Protection Authority investigation unit on the orders of Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando.

At the time of the raid, the Company was on the verge of releasing these out dated stocks worth more than five million rupees to the local market.

Investigations had revealed that the packets had originally carried the year of manufacture as 2009 but it had been altered to read as January 2010.
