Deyata Kirula: Agricultural Museum

The Agrarian Services and Wildlife Ministry will establish an Agricultural Museum in Anuradhapura to coincide with the Deyata Kirula development programme, Agrarian Service and Wildlife Minister S M Chandrasena said. The museum to be built on one and a half acres of land in Anuradhapura will cost Rs. 50 million, he said. The ministry has drawn up a plan to collect old and traditional agricultural equipment countrywide to establish this proposed Agricultural Museum, he said.

The minister said about three or four decades ago, the farming community used a number of eco - friendly agricultural equipments.

"But with the introduction of modern technology, most farmers have abandoned the traditional agricultural methods. 'Around 25 types of various agricultural equipment has been collected todate and the minister requests farmers to present their old agricultural implements to be displayed in the museum', he said.
