The Provincial Health Services Department has drawn up plans for strict monitoring of hotels and food outlets at the Deyata Kirula Exhibition grounds and Anuradhapura city and environs during the Independence Day and Deyata Kirula Exhibition period to ensure that people visiting Anuradhapura during these celebrations are provided with hygenic food and drinks.

Under this programme, hotels and food outlets along Anuradhapura-Vilachchiya, Anuradhapura-Nochchiyagama - Ranawarawa roads too would be subjected to constant monitoring said Ananda Weragoda, a food and drugs inspector attached to the Regional Director of Health Services office in Anuradhapura.

He said many temporary food outlets too have come up to cater to the massive crowds expected and health officers have taken steps to paste a special sticker on hotels and food outlets checked for hygene and safety so that the public could easily identify them. The monitoring programme which began on January 23 would continue till February 14.
