'The government has initiated a massive road development drive in Anuradhapura and the Deyata Kirula national exhibition area. Over Rs. 6,500 million has been allocated for this project which includes the rehabilitation of main roads connecting different towns with Anuradhapura city , Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawala told the Daily News.
A massive transformation is taking place in road development with the awakening of Oyamaduwa as a result of the Deyata Kirula national development exhibition.
"Oyamaduwa is a remote village in the Rajarata which had never witnessed the scale of development it is now experiencing through the accelerated Deyata Kirula development drive and is ready to face a new era in development," the minister further said. We are rehabilitating the main, provincial and rural roads in the Anuradhapura district. Rs. one million has been granted to develop selected roads in each Grama Niladhari division in Anuradhapura.
Accordingly, Millavetiya-Polpala junction road which is (5.7 Km) and Pemaduwa-Ulukulama road (3.7km) will also be concreted.
The government has allocated Rs.522 million to carpet the access road (23km) to the Anuradhapura sacred city while the Lolugaswewa - Oyamadu(15km), Thanthirimale bridge - Chettikulam road (8km), Ulukkulama -Elayapaththuwa (12km), Maningamuwa-Thanthirimale(10.5km), Devanampiyatissa-Mihintale(0.45 km) Madamaluwa-Mihintale(0.8km), old hospital road-Mihintala(0.22km), Katuseya-Mihintale(0.42km), Kaduwatta-Mihintale(4km) and Rajagirilena-Mihintale (1km) roads will be rehabilitated spending Rs.926 million, Rs.369 million, Rs.624 million, Rs.220 million, Rs.7 million, Rs.28 million, Rs. six million, Rs.11 million, Rs.63 million and Rs. two million respectively.
Other ongoing road rehabilitation projects in the Anuradhapura district include, the Godage road (Rs.24..7million),Pubudupura road (Rs.51 million), Semasinghe road (Rs.25.2 million), Bulankulama road (Rs.37.8million), Puttalama-Trincomalee road (Rs.146 million), Anuradhapura - Padeniya (Rs.284 million), Dharampala road(Rs.137 million), D.S.Senanayake road ( Rs.110 million), Harischandra road(Rs.104 million), Maithiripala Senanayake road (Rs.164 million), Sinha Kanuwa road-railway road (Rs.28.3 million), Kalaththewa - Matale(Rs.136 million), Sinha Kanuwa road - Sri Maha Bodhiya (Rs.32.1 million), Wilpattu Sanctuary Park access road (Rs.51 million), Jaffna junction - Sri Maha Bodhiya road (Rs.372million) and Outer Circular Road (Rs.170 million).
