Prices of all essential consumer items will remain intact contrary to the predictions of certain sections of the media, President of the Old Moor Street Traders’ Association (OMSTA) K.Palaniyandy told the Sunday Observer.
The media had predicted that the prices would increase proportionate to the rupee devaluation but their Association was confident that it would not be the case as there was an adequate stock in hand for the New Year festive season and thereafter, Palaniyandy said.
OMSTA being the main wholesale distributor and importer of rice, grains, wheat, onions, lentils, eggs and other essential consumer items with a membership of over 350 wholesale traders anticipates a sharp drop in prices in the forthcoming harvest season for paddy and other agricultural products and enhanced production of vegetables, Palaniyandy said. Chicken and eggs are also available in plenty, he said.
