Two Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) super luxury buses plying on the Southern Expressway earned an income of over Rs.1.5 million in the first week of its operations.
SLTB began a super luxury bus service on the Southern Expressway from January 3.
Two buses are operated between Maharagama and Galle every two hours, an SLTB Spokesman told the Daily News.
The SLTB added two more new super luxury buses on the Southern Expressway after an increase in commuters.
A passenger travelling from Maharagama to Galle is charged Rs 400 while a passenger travelling from Kottawa to Galle is charged Rs 380. “We are considering introducing the reservation of seats for luxury buses via internet,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Private Transport Ministry is in the process of deploying super luxury private buses along the Southern Expressway.
Bus owners have been selected through a tender procedure and upon Road Development Authority approval, two more luxury private buses will be deployed on the Southern Expressway.
