The SLN yesterday arrested two Indian fishing vessels poaching in Sri Lankan waters off the East coast.
SLN spokesperson Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya told The Island that the trawlers had been initially sighted 14.2 nautical miles north-east of Pulmoddai at 3 pm on Tuesday (Jan. 10) and were seized along with 13 fishermen 6.5 nautical miles east of Pulmoddai yesterday morning.

The spokesperson said that the vessels bearing TN/06/MFB 1087 and TN/06/MFB 1032 had been ‘willfully trespassing’ at the time the SLN moved in they were making an unwarranted movement towards the land.
Asked whether Indian fishing fleet poached in eastern waters, the official said the vast majority of previous detections had been made in the northern waters.
