සිංහරාජ ලෝක උරුම වනාන්තරය දෙකඩ වන ලෙසට පාරක් ඉදිකිරීමට කිසිදු පියවරක් ගෙන නැතැයි පරිසර ඇමැති අනුර ප්‍රියදර්ශන යාපා මහතා පැවසීය.

සිංහරාජ වනාන්තරය පිටින් ඇති ඉඩම් ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ කොමිෂන් සභාවට අයිති ඉඩමක මායිමේ අඩි පාරක් පමණක් තිබෙන බවත් බම්බුමලේ සිට සූරියකන්ද දක්වා වන එම අඩිපාර කිසිදු පළල් කිරීමක් නොකරන අතර එය ස්වාභාවික මං පෙතක් ලෙස භාවිතා කරන බවත් ඇමැතිවරයා කීය.

පොතුපිටියේ සිට ඉලුඹකන්ද දක්වා ද පාරක් තිබෙන අතර, එහි බස් රථයක් පවා ධාවනය කෙරෙන බවත්, එය වැඩිදියුණු කරන බවත් ඇමැතිවරයා කීය.

ඉලුඹකන්ද සිට බම්බුමලේ දක්වා වන මීටර් 700ක් පමණ වන කොටසද වැඩි දියුණු කිරීමේ වරදක් නැතැයිද ඇමැතිවරයා කීය.

ඇමැතිවරයා මෙම අදහස් පළකළේ සිංහරාජ වනාන්තරයේ මාර්ගයක් ඉදිකරන බවට ඇතිවූ මතබේදය වෙනුවෙන් සොයාබැලීමට පත්කරන ලද කමිටුවේ වාර්තාව පසුගියදා (2) පරිසර අමාත්‍යාංශයේදී ඇමැතිවරයාට බාරදුන් අවස්ථාවේදීය.

පේරාදෙණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ මහාචාර්ය ගාමිණී හිටිනායක මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් යුත් විද්වත් කමිටුවක් මගින් මේ පිළිබඳ පරීක්‍ෂා කර වාර්තාවක් සකස් කර තිබේ.

මේ මාර්ගය නිසා සිංහරාජ වනාන්තරය දෙකඩ වීමක් කිසිම අයුරකින් සිදුනොවන බව පැවසූ ඇමැතිවරයා එම මාර්ගය ඇත්තේ සිංහරාජ මායිමට පිටින් කිලෝ මීටර් දෙක හමාරක් පමණ දුරින් පිහිටි ඉඩම් ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ කොමිෂන් සභාවට අයිතිව තිබූ ඉඩමක් බවද ඇමැතිවරයා කීය.

මේ ඉඩම එළිපෙහෙළි කර තේ වගා කර තිබූ අතර , පසුව වගාව අත්හැරීම නිසා දැන් එය කැලයක් බවට පත්ව ඇති බවත් එම ඉඩම් කොටසේ පවුල් 4 ක් පමණක් පදිංචිව සිටින බවත් ඇමැතිවරයා කීය.

ඉඩම් ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ කොමිසමට අයිති ඉඩම පවරා ගැනීම සඳහා මූලික කටයුතු සිදුකර ඇති බවත් ඒ සඳහා තවත් ක්‍රියා රැසක් සිදුකිරීමට තිබෙන බවත් එහි පදිංචි පවුල් කුමන හේතුවක් නිසාවත් ඉවත් නොකරන බවත් ඇමැතිවරයා කීය.

Controversial road restricted in 3.5 km stretch

The recommendations of the executive committee appointed by the Ministry of Environment, to look into the controversial road being constructed through a section of the Sinharaja Forest, were presented to media yesterday (02).

"The committee has concluded that road development of the nearly 10 km stretch from Potupitiya to Ilumbakanda and another 700 mt stretch to Bambumale, does not cause any threat to the Sinharaja eco system," Minister of Environment, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said.

He said that in accordance with the recommendations of the committee the ministry had decided not to develop the 3.5 km foot path extending up to Suriyakanda from Bambumale. The ministry was planning to use the foot path as a nature trail in the future.

Yapa said that shortly the recommendations of the committee would be forwarded to the government officials in respective areas to carry out committee recommendations. The special committee comprising nine members was headed by Dr. Gamini Hitinayaka.

The ministry is now in the process of acquiring land in the vicinity of the foot path, some of which belonging to the Land Reforms Commission.

Responding to a query Yapa said that the road construction plan had been initiated in response to a request from the residents of the area.
