පිළිකා රෝහල නිසා අවට අයට පිළිකා හැදෙනවා දැයි සොයයි

මහරගම ජාතික පිළිකායතනය අවට පදිංචි පුද්ගලයන් පිළිකා වලදී මියයැම සම්බන්ධයෙන් සොයා බැලීමට විද්වත් මණ්ඩලයක් පත් කිරීම සඳහා සෞඛ්ය අමාත්යාංශය තීරණය කර ඇත.
පිළිකා රෝහලෙන් විකිරණ ද්රව්ය පරිසරයට එක්වීම නිසා රෝහල අවට පුද්ගලයන් කිහිප දෙනකුට පිළිකා රෝගය වැළඳී ඇති බව සඳහන් වාර්තාවක් බස්නාහිර පළාත් සභා මන්ත්රී උදය ගම්මන්පිල මහතා ඇතුළු කණ්ඩායමක් සෞඛ්ය අමාත්ය මෛත්රිපාල සිරිසේන මහතාට භාරදී තිබේ.
එම පුද්ගලයන්ට පිළිකා රෝගය වැළඳී ඇත්තේ රෝහලෙන් පිටවන විකිරණ පරිසරයට එක්වීම නිසා දැයි යන්න සොයා බලන බවත් අදාළ වාර්තා තවදුරටත් අධ්යයනය කොට අවසන් නිගමනයකට පැමිණෙන බවත් සෞඛ්ය ඇමැතිවරයාට පෙන්වා දෙයි.
පිළිකා රෝහලෙන් බැහැර කෙරෙන අපද්රව්ය මහජන සෞඛ්යයට හානියක් නොවන ලෙස ආරක්ෂිතව බැහැර කරන ලෙසත් ඒවා විනාශ කිරීමට සුදුසු ක්රමවේද අනුගමනය කරන ලෙසත් ඇමැති මෛත්රිපාල සිරිසේන මහතා රෝහල් බලධාරීන්ට උපදෙස් දී තිබේ.

Health Ministry to appoint committee to probe cancer deaths near Maharagama hospital

The Health Ministry has decided to appoint a committee to probe into the issue of people living in close proximity to the Cancer hospital in Maharagama dying of cancer.
The Ministry sources said that Western Provincial Council Environment Minister Udaya Gammanpila had submitted a report to the Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena that some residents who lived close to the cancer hospital have died of cancer and urged him to find out whether it was due to radio active substances emanating from the hospital.
The health Minister had said that the actual cause of their deaths would be examined and reach a final decision after studying the reports.
He has ordered the hospital authorities to ensure that the refuse from the hospital must be disposed of in a manner that was not injurious to the health of the public and a proper mechanism should be adopted to dispose of them.
Gammanpila said that according to a survey conducted by the Sri Jayawardenapura University, 96 deaths have occurred in the Godigamuwa during the last five years where the hospital had been dumping its waste and 47 of them were due to cancer.
The Provincial Environment Minister said that his ministry had decided to commission a survey following a large number of complaints from the people living in the vicinity of the hospital.
The director of the hospital has claimed that the number of cancer patients in the area had increased as most of them were living in and around the area to receive treatment.
