During the last 11 years, 287.3 kgs of heroin, 6,252 kgs of hashish, 16.0 kgs of cocaine and 26 kgs of methamphetamine were seized while being smuggled into the country, Parliament was told yesterday.
Chief Government Whip and Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardene said fines for offences related to drugs are less as those found guilty get capital punishment or life sentence. Case hearings have been carried out in courts for some drug smuggling related incidents.
