Country wide census on Feb. 27

The 14th countrywide Census on Population and Housing would begin on February 27, the Census and Statistic Department said.

Officials will visit each household with the assistance of District Secretaries to collect preliminary data for the census to be held on March 19. Collection of information on persons and their residences will be carried out during this three-week period.

Data will be collected on economic status of people, occupation, fertility, migration pattern residence and electricity supply etc and the Department of Census and Statistics requests people to provide information required by census official. Information so obtained will not be shared with any other institution, the department says.

Over 80,000 officers are now being trained for conducting the census while 16,000 inspecting officers will be on duty.

Meanwhile Social Services Ministry said that the government was to conduct a census on beggars in country wide as there had been an increase in the number of beggars living in urban areas and the ministry was planning to integrate them into the society and provide them with houses.
